Exclamation 5 rare Guerlains in 5 days

Heads up to the Guerlain enthusiasts...

I have decided to write a series of 5 short reviews on 5 uncommon Guerlain fragrances over the next 5 days, and would love for you to have a read.

    http://sorceryofscent.blogspot.com/

Of course, I invite your comments on the blog, and discussion here on Basenotes. If anyone has also tried a few of those I will be writing about, I'd love to hear your thoughts too!

    Today's scent: Guerlain's Lavande (1923)

Interesting ... I'll look forward to seeing which other Guerlains you're gonna review.

I bet I'd dislike todays, Lavande, I hate immortelle, smells like straight up curry!

Yes, this I know! Eau Noire is the untamed beast of your Dior collection!

I have just posted Day 2's short review: Guerlain's Eau de Verveine.

Verveine sounds wonderfully refreshing. I love all the history about Guerlain and those bottles. Now I know where the name Spiriteuse Double Vanille came from too ! Thanks D !

    Cool series

Verveine sounds great - this is the one note I have been looking for . . . high hopes for the Heeley but didn't quite do it for me.

    Thanks for your comments everyone
Mimi, whilst researching this one, I was also interested to see the name "Spiritueuse Double..." used for Verveine over 120 years ago! More proof to support the claim that Guerlain love to recycle names.

Mr reasonable: the closest scent I have come across to resemble Eau de Verveine is L'Occitane's Verveine room spray. It differs from the L'Occitane EDT of the same name in that it seems a little "dirtier" to the nose. It might be worth checking out if you too crave a nice shot of Verbena.

Muchos gracias - L'Occitane seem to have a habit of springing little surprises on me - will head in on the weekend!

And finally my 5th and final instalment in the series: Guerlain's Coque d'Or. Click here.
This is possibly one of my favourite Guerlain fragrances to date.

Mimi, you also own some of this precious perfume, don't you? I really look forward to your insights on this one too. Particularly with regard to my insights as to it sharing strong ties with a modern masculine Guerlain men's fragrance. Do you find the two comparable?

Hey Dimitri- my fave fave historic Guerlain - for the bottles ( 3 wonderful sizes and 2 colors- blue bowtie baccarat or gold covered baccarat bowtie ) ,the history... The scent was leathery chypre but it was decades old and from an opened bottle so who knows how off' it was.
I just died and went to heaven Dimitri . I am lemming a baccarat blue Coque d'Or bottle myself.........

Dimitri- I could not post a comment on your blog because the visual security code would not show up despite reloading many times. I will try again later though !

Mimi, do you still have any of the juice from that bottle? I assume it would be parfum, correct?

Yeah, I ADORE the bottle too... I have my eye on a gilt version too at a reasonable price! (I'll show you mine if you show me yours)! :-P

Not sure whats up with the captcha on the blog... maybe try a different browser?

Dimitri- sadly I only had a few mls left from the bottle and it's all gone now - some leaked too. Smelled divine though- really old world fragrance - like smelling the 1920s/1930s. The gold bottles in good condition are a wonder to see, feel and hold. I want a blue one !!!!!

I will try to leave a comment again!

    Thanks for the latest one!

Coque d'Or is just an amazing scent.

I feel so excited now about your project, that i may post a review of Guerlain's Bouquet de Faunes, which i think is one of the "greats" of yore, sadly forgotten.

You're very welcome people... thanks for indulging me and having a read!

Castorpollux, I'd love to hear your review of Bouquet de Faunes! Please keep me posted!

I have a small quantity of Djedi en route at the moment which I will need to review as well. I am almost too afraid to sniff at that one!

    Dimi,

I did not have a chance to read your reviews earlier in the week. They are lovely and makes me want to smell those perfumes. I have a small sample of Rue de la Paix. My impression is that it is a cousin to Chant d'Aromes. I would love to smell the Verveine some day, but the one that really intrigued me was Coque d'Or

Thank you for the opportunity to read about these beautiful fragrances. You make me think I can smell them just by reading what you've written!
