Simple answer: YES! I have worn it many times and have not been arrested yet.

Let your nose be your guide. Whether a fragrance is deemed masculine or feminine is generally nothing more than marketing. Frankly, I enjoy a man who wears Mitsouko with confidence.

I've (once) been asked if I were wearing a female scent: it was Dior Homme. Since I like making jokes, I answered "yes, it is called Dior Homme". Of course, I had to explain... but the woman liked it, but she said it did not smell manly, the way her chersihed YSL's Jazz does.

I try to avoid this since I can't be arsed to shave my legs. Or my chest for that matter, or my goatee. Nobody cares what I smell like, they just bitch about my hirsute maleness...

OK, I have to wade in on this topic. Mitsouko is my signature scent, as all here on Basenotes will attest, and I have had many, many compliments from the wearing of Mitsouko from women and men. Mitsouko defies gender specificity. I feel that is not only unisex, but one of the finest, if not THE finest, fragrance ever made. I wear it with complete confidence and so can anyone.

Mitsouko lost its gender a couple of decades ago - if it ever actually had one. I think you should ask yourself first if you like the smell of Mitsouko. I do, but while I admire its beauty and proportion, I find wearing it all day to be a little overwhelming, sort of like having the Mona Lisa hanging in one's living room.

I can get away with wearing it, I just often don't want to wear it.

I actually find it a difficult fragrance to like if truth be told. I'd rather wear Mouchoir de Monsieur or Jicky.

Over the past six months I have tested Mitsouko on 3 seperate occasions, Shalimar EDP once, and L' Heure Bleue once. I have tried MdM, and also Jicky EDT, all at least once. For the life of me, I just don't get any of the older offerings like these from Guerlain. Sure they are all well made with quality materials, but ???????? They smell like old ladies and old men (dated). Sorry they just do. Wearing and appreciation: two seperate things for me. Much respect to the artistry but no likey for me.

Mitsouko...Ok for the first hour it had some promise and interest, but that drydown was difficult to say the least for me. I am just once removed white trash from Alabama, so don't mind me. Take my tastes with a grain of salt and hope that one day I have the epiphany that others have had with these arts of perfumery.

If it was good enough for Sergei Diaghilev, shouldn't it be good enough for you?

You must have missed a portion of my earlier post. I was not as fortunate as good ole Sergei Diaghilev. He was born into wealth and knew early the need and advantages of refined taste. For me, again basic white trash from Alabama, I had no such advantage and my understanding of all things fine and cultured has eluded me to this point in life. I will keep trying to see Mitsouko's beauty though, I owe it to her. So excuse me while I run to Tiger Mart and get some wine in a box.

Mitsouko was also a favorite of Charlie Chalin.

I'm somewhere between the two extremes of "Wear whatever you want" and "No, ONLY Masculines!". While I certainly understand both camps, for myself I have definite lines in the sand and distinctions between masculine and feminine. That being said, there are certain perfumes with such iconic level of recognition, that I find really don't have a place on males skin in public. Mitsouko would be one of those.

I am with mtgprox on the lines in the sand, though mine are slightly further from shore.

"Beautiful" I can do--it's sort of the whole point of this, isn't it?

But "pretty", not so much--Caron's Le Troisième Homme being the lone exception.

Mitsouko, in the lower concentrations, strikes me as beautiful but slightly prim, especially in comparison to the mutant fruity behemoths and watery-apple-violet-leaf concoctions that comprise much of the modern designer fragrance offerings across the gender divide.

Perfectly wearable by a man in proper doses. I recommend the EdP.

No hang ups here. I wear a fresh green rose scent on a regular basis, and all I get are " Gosh, you smell good!" type of compliments from the galz. Mitsouko is positively butch in comparison!

I see your fresh green rose scent, and raise you a Lolita Lempicka in a purple and gold sparkly bottle.

I think global comments like "Men should not wear (fill in the name of a fragrance)" are frankly quite asinine and ridiculous.

If you don't want to wear a particular fragrance, then fine - that is your prerogative. But what I wear or anyone else wears is none of your f'ing concern or business.

In my posts about Mitsouko, I was not commenting on the feminine or masculine apsects of it, just the fact that it smells dated and IMO is not a attractive smell. If we can't debate what we think is feminine and masculine and what smells good or bad, or what is modern or dated, then what is the purpose of this discussion board. I agree it is nobody's business what we personally wear...but isn't discussion fun no?

I believe that the get away with thing is in the brain, not in the smell. You can get away with wearing anything that smells great on you, marketed for man or for woman or unissex.
I love mitsouko, it`s one of my dry cozy winter scents.

The more feminine a scent is, the more manly you have to be to wear it. That sorta doesn't apply on trashy high-school girls type of perfumes like Fantasy or pink sugar.

    ROFLMAO!

I don't care which sex wears the Guerlain classics as long as they get worn- actually, purchased so the company doesn't discontinue them.

I wish I could get away with wearing Mitsouko. It is the only scent I have that my wife comments on, usually saying something like she can't describe how horrible it is. The last time I wore it she said "Never wear that again".

I recently purchased the current formulation EDP in the gold matte box but unfortunately this one turned into a hot mess on my skin, very sweet and flowery, not the least bit masculine in my opinion. Imagine the vintage versions are quite better than this ... offered full bottle to my Aunt who is 60+ and she said it smelled "too oldladyish"
Been around for over 90 years so this is definitely an oldie but a goodie, just not my style.

I wouldn't say that it turns into a hot mess on me, but the modern edp is indeed "prettier" than vintage. It's generally softer and has less teeth. Unfortunately.
