Default Which is your favourite L'Artisan?

I haven't much experience of this particular line, although the ones I
have tried I really liked, especially Premier Figuier and Voleur de Rose.
PF is totally gorgeous and lasts very well on my skin, seeming to bloom
    in the heat.

I am desperate to try Bois Farine and La Chasse aux Papillons. Is there anywhere
apart from Les Senteurs in the U.K. that stocks the l'Artisans?

What are your favourites from this line and which ones have disappointed you
and why? I want to learn more about them.

My very favorite L'Artisan is Dzing! with Passage d"Enfer a close second. Dzing! was described to me as "hot, sugared leather" and that pretty much sums it up. PdE is a wonderful lily, aloe, and incense scent that is on my lust list. I also own Safron Troublant, a milky vanilla spiced up with safron, layered with sandalwood and rose.

    Also on my wish list:
    Havana Vanille
    Bois Farine
    Mure et Musc
    Voleur de Roses

La Chasse aux Papillons (there is an EDT and an EDP - called La Chasse aux Papillons Extreme) is very light and feminine. I prefer the non-extreme version. They are both very pretty (as in makes you feel beautiful when you wear it). However, I find this scent underwhelming over time.
My favorite L' Artisan is Timbuktu. Insence, dried fruits, and deep spices. Mmmm -especially in the autumn. This scent is comforting and exciting at the same time.

    Dzing!

I really need to explore the line more, though. There are so many I've tried in passing that I never gave the proper time and attention to, and many more I've never even smelled. I've only given a full wearing to nine of them.

Havana Vanille has gotten under, and on, my skin big time. I love its lively evolution through tobacco and vanilla down to its musky base.

I'm with you on Premier Figuier, Kewart. Fantastic scent for hot weather.

My personal fav is Fleur d'Oranger. Ghastly price, yes, but soooo good. A huge mood elevator for me and wearable year round.

Bringing up the rear for me of the ones I own is Mimosa Pour Moi. I liked the sample and sprung for a FB, but somehow I find myself in the mood for it very infrequently. Maybe someday I'll sell it. Or, maybe it's time for me to start experiment with layering it.

La Chasse Aux Papillons is a very sweet jasmine to me. I like it when first applied, but that is all.

Dzing!, Dzongkha, and Tea For Two are my top three. The only ones I have not really tried in the current line have been some of the florals. I really like the house a lot, and was fortunate to get a lot in the last few months at a significant discount. I recently got Al Oudh (not at discount, alas), which a lot of people in the forums were kind of dismissive of. I find it really sexy. Love it.

L'Artisan Parfumeur is a diverse line, several perfumers with distinct styles having contributed to it over the years. Some of my favorites in the range include Dzongkha, Tea for Two, Fou d'Absinthe, Méchant Loup, Mimosa pour Moi, Drôle de Rose, Fleur de Liane, Thé pour une Été, and Dzing! Of the most recent releases, I enjoyed Al Oudh, but have been very disappointed in Havana Vanille and Nuit de Tubéreuse.

I don't like this line, just really don't get it. But I smelled some La Chasse aux Papillons on another person and I was amazed. Therefore, I recommend it eagerly. And actually like that one.

Tried all of them, except for the 2010 releases, three are the favorites -- Voleur de Roses (plummy roses-patchouli), Timbuktu (non-foody gourmand) and Fleur de Narcisse (because there is nobody doing daffodils quite like them).

This is my favorite house, and I've tried most of them. I love Timbuktu, Dzongkha, Nuit de Tubereuse, Havana Vanille, Voleur de Roses, Fleur de Liane, Premier Figuier, Cote d'Amour, Fleur de Narcisse, and L'Eau de Jatamansi. And I like most of the others I've tried. The only ones, so far, that I wouldn't particularly choose to wear are Drole de Rose, L'Eau d'Ambre, Jour de Fete, Bois Farine, and Tea for Two.

I have and love Bois Farine, Dzing!, Dzongkha, Jour de Fête, L'Eau d'Ambre (+ Ambre Extrême), Mandarin tout simplement, Mûre et Musc (+ MeM Extrême), Passage d'Enfer, Piment Brûlant, Poivre Piquant, Saffran Troublant, Tea for Two, Timbuktu and Voleur de Roses.

Would like to add Fleur de Liane to my collection one day.

If I had to pick just one, it would be Dzing!

I found Fou d'Absinthe and Patchouli Patch disappointing, and I just don't like Mechant Loup and Vanilia at all.

L'Artisan still have a boutique in London. The address is 17 Cable Street, London SW3 3QW(? for the last part of the postcode).

Iris Pallida is just the most gorgeous iris, but very expensive if they have it.

I've tried several of the L'Artisans, thanks to their wonderful sample program ($7/5 samples?). Voleur de Roses is among my favorites from this line, thus far. Bois Farine is very interesting, and Fleur de Liane (thank you Haunani!) is quite pretty. Once in a while I will pull out my sample of Verte Violette, which was most "verte" when I first tried it, but now is too sweet (huh?). I am very much enjoying my samples of the Fleur d'Oranger - maybe it is my favorite from this line, but I have a hard time rationalizing the cost of a FB!

I don't own a bottle from this line, but if I win the lottery I'd get the Fd'O. If not, perhaps I'll buy myself the Voleur de Roses....

Final note: It was interesting to read pomander's take on La Chasse, because I feel exactly the same way!

I sample the line (it's available in a store near here) often, but am wary of it, since two that I loved as samples, and then bought, I'm not enjoying wearing: Tea for Two (too sweet) and Voleur de Roses (get very weird and I wash it off)

Agree with lots on this thread, and there are many I'm really looking forward to trying soon (such as Timbuktu and Dzongkha). I'm feeling big love for my Nuit de Tubereuse sample, and am looking forward to getting a FB. Also really enjoy Havana Vanille and Bois Farine. I was really hopeful about La Chasse, but it must have been a really off day for my nose, because I kept thinking it smelled like Lipton Chicken Noodle Soup! (Maybe I was hungry or getting a cold

I just couldn't like Dzing!, and Havana Vanille left me lukewarm. I will have to sample Timbuktu again. I sniffed it at one of the L'Artisan boutiques and thought it was very nice, but I was not moved to buy it on the spot.

My most favorite is clearly Iris Pallida

    Other loves are:

    Havana Vanille
    Tea for Two
    Verte Violette
    Premiere Figuiere
    Ambre Extreme
    La Chase Aux Papillons

and a long discontinued treasure - Orchidee Blanc

The greatest attribute of L'Artisan frags is their easy wearability! It is a pleasure to spritz on almost any of their scents, and enjoy it well throughout the day. I held off on purchasing Iris Pallida for a long time, due to the ridiculous pricetag...but eventually went ahead and splurged! I haven't EVER regretted that buy!

Oh Ubuandibeme, I do wish I hadn't read your comment about Iris Pallida!!
I am seriously lusting after it now. I have a thing for Iris scents and just know I
would love IP. Do you mind me asking where you ordered yours from and how
much it was? I usually draw the line at around £69 for a scent mind you, but for this
one I might just fall by the wayside.

Not with Timbuktu, but Dzing! turns into a very quiet skin scent on me after about 1 hr. Soft-leather and spicy-sweet, just very attenuated vs. when first sprayed on.

In general, it seems this brands' fragrances are quite ethereal.

I also have and love Dzing! and Vanilia.

I really like Havana Vanille too, but need a few more full wearings to decide if it is FB worthy...for some reason it is reminding me of Coromandel.

I've been wracking my poor brain trying to recall what food Iris Pallida smelled like to me, at first whiff-- and it just came to me: Artichoke tapenade! I even said that to the SA and she took a sniff and agreed!

This is not to say it would continue to smell of artichokes. But that first sniff...very odd.

    edit:

I retested in NYC last week and didn't pick up this odd note. Maybe the bottle I tested from the first time was damaged from being on display/exposure to light?

Across from Watertower is closed, but they still have ALL the L'Artisan testers at the Nieman Marcus up in Northbrook, for those around Chi.

I have a weird love/hate thing going on with L'Artisan. They have a house note that's supposed to be some sort of smoky tea that just smells like that weird rubber doll smell to my nose. It's in tons of them, from Dzing to Mure et Musc to their Fleur d'Oranger.

My favorites are Fou d'Absinthe (though it may be quite challenging on a woman) and Ananas Fizz, which is the best fun peppery alcoholic pineapple/citrus summer scent ever.

I also have a soft spot for Piment Brulant (the one that smells like bell peppers). Their incenses (Timbuktu, Dzongka, and Passage d'Enfer) are pure art pieces that I don't necessarily like wearing, but highly respect.

    Thanks for that info. Rogalal!
I am now keen to try Ananas Fizz.

Rogalal, when I first tried Fou d'Absinthe I was thinking of buying it for myself. I didn't even realize it wasn't designated as a unisex. As it is, hubby bought a bottle so I leave that one to him, but I still like it a lot.

Kewart, Ananas Fizz is quite nice for hot weather, but very short lived; plan to respray often.

Adore Bois Farine! Tried a sample of it n It has set me off on this niche fragrance craze that I've just started, hunting for a full bottle now :P

I haven't exactly tried their whole line, but at least for now my favourite is Dzing!, but also really like Voleur de roses. Tea for Two and Safran Troublant was also very nice.

The very generous Ubuandibeme sent me a sample of Iris Pallida (along with some
other scents.) I was overwhelmed to say the least.
Iris Pallida is indeed gorgeous. A soft, buttery iris underpinned with gaiac wood - very
comforting and grounding. I am rather glad it has been discontinued and the temptation to buy some has
been removed from my reach. The generosity of fellow polers never ceases to amaze me.

Iris Pallida was still available at The L'Artisan boutique at Henri Bendel when I was there last week, Kewart (enabler, I know.) I retested it but could barely detect anything...I think I must be partly anosmic to iris.

I like many, but possibly the one i like best is Fou d'Absinthe, followed by La ChaseAP and MechL.

My favorite is probably Patchouli Patch followed very closely by Dzing.

I like several perfumes from this line, but don't find many of them to be particularly wearable on my skin. I wore Tea for Two for a while, then one day it became so overwhelmingly smoky that I had to scrub it off. I have never been able to wear it since. I liked Vanilia, but it did not last on my skin. The idea of blending it with Patchouli Patch is an excellent one! I can't wait to try it.

Resist the Iris, and it will flee from thee! (with apologies to St. James for hijacking his words.)

My absolute favorites are Bois Farine, Fleur de Liane, Nuit de Tubereuse, and Timbuktu. I also really enjoy Al Oudh, Fou d'Absinthe, Méchant Loup, Tea for Two, and Havana Vanille (which is likely to shift to the "absolute favorites" category come fall/winter).
