Talking 212 MEN versus L' Eau d Issey

If you HAD TO pick one which one would it be?

I'd probably go with 212. I think L'Eau Par Kenzo is a good substitute for Issey anyway.

Sorry - can't do it. I would rather go scentless.

I think they're both great. I'd go for 212 as it's the better all rounder, for me Issey is mainly a warm to hot weather scent.

I dont like either. If I had a gun to my head, probably the Issey just because the 212 smells a little weak in the tea department for me.

I don't particularly like aquatics, but if I had to choose one l'Eau d'Issey would be near the top of my list. Tremendous depth and complexity.

    I loathe L'Eau d'Issey so 212 wins by default.

Issey for sure, far more complex and interesting and that speaks a lot for an an aquatic.

This is funny, because when I first read this thread title my first thought was "I bet petruccijc has commented about how he hates them both". No offense intended. You have a much more experienced nose than I do, and you are well respected around here, and that includes me. I've just noticed that your tastes couldn't be any more opposite than mine.

I'm not sure I could pick between these either, but it's because I love them both. L'eau D'Issey is much more interesting and long lasting, but 212 Men I think is more versatile and I find myself wearing it more.

My question for the the OP though is "why do you ask?" If you are just posting a hypothetical head to head, that's cool, I love these threads. If you are asking because you are considering purchasing one or the other (and I know you aren't a newbie), do you really like these fragrances?

TG - I don't think it has anything to do with experience. A lot of aquatic fragrances just don't smell that great on me, at least to my nose. However, they smell good on others. Could be a skin chemistry thing.

I like 'em both, but I'd go for the 212.

Issey Miyake hands down...I think 212 is insipid, generic and can't smell it after 5 mins. It's watery crap.

    212! I love the drydown.

Wow! I guess it may be another case of skin chemistry because 212 lasted through a shower on me.

I will go with Issey--it lasts a long time even if you apply it very 'thin.'

Yes, great longevity, even with very small applications.
The opening is a bit hard for me to swallow.
But it dries down and morphs into something very sexy and seductive.
