Default Anyone tried Mark Buxton colognes? Nice bottles!

The bottles are really nice, but are the fragrances any good? Has anyone here tried em?

NOT crazy about ANY of them I've sampled.
Hope you get more info from others cause I pretty much immediately dismissed them.

They are alright, my first niche excursion so i carry I certain fondness of them.

    Notable:

Hot Leather : A warm, soft plain leather, not really overwhelmed by floral, aromatic or herbal aspects, just nice. In fact I might revisit this tomorrow for a more thourough review.

Around Midnight: Very good! a herbal aromatic, well, chypre i guess. Strongest resembelance I immediately thought of was "peppery incense" albeit there's no incense in it. Unique and very much testworthy.

Black Angel was a fruity oriental that reminded me of somewhat sweet, candied raspberry.

The rest I really have to revisit but didnt particularly dig.

Good thread. Here's a question I've alwasy had. I know Buxton from his wonderful work for CdG.
Those of you who have tried both his private label and CdG, do you think they're of the same levela of innovation and quality?
Would his private label scents pass for CdG in blind tests?

    Well, they are jsut different.

I think the whole point of having your own line (plus the right to print money if your successfull) is creativity.
For CdG I would assume he had to work along quite precise briefs and let cross checks from CdG influence the development.
With his own scents he could goabsolutely nuts and thats what he did. They aren't alike each other at all.

So i'd say more creativity, i dont know about quality (albeit the prise should suggest the use of very fine materials). Just check them out.

I like Around Midnight the best. Smoky/floral incense.

While it's no big deal to me, I don't like the bottles. I think the color combinations are okay, but the patterns are poorly scaled relative to the dimensions of the rather squat bottle. The idea of viewing abstract patterns "through the juice" is clever, but you're still basically seeing the back of an adhesive label; my bottle has a visible "bubble" (or maybe it's built-up adhesive gunk) in one spot.

I LOVE Black Angel. It's really amazing. And Mark Buxton is a genius for making me able to appreciate/like ginger.

I can't really say as I've only tried Black Angel. From what I get Around Midnight has Buxton's dry incense signature all over it, and thus would most likely fit in the best with his work for CDG. I really like Black Angel, and I'm also a fan of Mark Buxton, but I've never smelled another Mark Buxton creating even remotely similar to Black Angel.

I am a fan of Marc Buxton's fragrances, yet oddly I still have not smelled his own line.

I liked Around Midnight, Black Angel and Woods & Absinth. The others are not bad, just not my thing.

I've only tried Black Angel, but I liked it enough to consider it FBW. I'll probably pick up a bottle sooner or later.

I tested all of the line at Scent Bar and the one that said take me home was called English Breakfast. Around Midnight was also very nice.
