Default If i like these frags.....what would you recommend?

    hey gang,

i have a sweet tough for dark, broody, heavy, masculine earthy fragrances. It seems that my favourites have predominantly vetiver and patchouli elements in them. Amongst my favourites rank:

    Mazzolari Lui
    Mazzolari Patchouly
    Givenchy gentleman
    Encre Noire
pretty much all MPG's but especially Parfum d'habit and RdV.

As you can see i like something with a pretty brutal basenote. Knize 10 is something i adore but which is somehow too light....

    what would you recommend?
    thanks david
I take a bottle of wine and I go drink it among the flowers.
We are always three ... counting my shadow and my friend the shimmering moon
Happily the moon knows nothing of drinking, and my shadow is never thirsty
When I sing, the moon listens to me in silence. When I dance, my shadow dances too.
After all festivities the guests must depart. This sadness I do not know.
When I go home, the moon goes with me and my shadow follows me

Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire is a pretty strong vetiver that is different enough from Encre Noir to consider.
Giorgio for Men an old powerhouse with some patchouli that packs a punch.

While this is not necessarily my taste exactly, I do really like Mazzolari Lui and am very earger to try Encre Noire and Parfum d'habit as I suspect I will really like them from what I've read....all that said, a fragrance I have really come to like is Chanel Antaeus. May not be heavy enough for you, but wanted to throw it out there at least for your consideration.

If you like Givenchy Gentleman and also Knize Ten, Mouchoir de Monsieur by Guerlain may be worth testing/sampling

Givenchy Vetiver is a very heavy fragrance for me. Not sweet but nutritious in a fatty/nutty way. It is not raw and dry like the Etro or Extraordinaire but bold. At least to the wearer.

^^^ I found that one rather "bitter", like a very green herb or something. Shame it's only an EdC strength.

    I'll throw out Bel Ami
    Tom Ford Splits!!!!
Tobacco Vanille, Tuscan Leather, Noir de Noir, Oud Wood
    Plum Japonais,
Lavender Palm, Tobacco Oud, Café Rose, etc...

Most of the time I am very proud of the Basenotes community. Time after time I have witnessed the thoughtfulness, empathy & genuine friendship that members of this community extend to others - oldtimers & newcomers alike. There are other times, however, when egos get the upper hand and civility goes out the window. My philosophy is that I won't say anything here that I would not say if you were standing in front of me. Welcome to Basenotes, each and every one of us. ~ TwoRoads

    @jenson,
i currently own Coromandel and floris vetiver , both great scents indeed!!! I always wonder what exactly it is that makes coromandel so "chique" And how the nose behind it managed to make this out of a patchouli base. quite a masterpiece in my opinion only hampered by a somewhat lacking evolution of the scent from start to finish.
I heard that floris vetiver is closest to the pre-reformulaqted RdV? it scertainly is more austere than the 100ml RdV i currently own, which is amazing in its own right.
    thanks for the tips!

you have a "chique"collection indeed. i'm waiting to upgrade to a bottle of Coromandel...living off a decant as of now. btw, HdP's Noir Patchouli is a amped up version of Coromandel with a powdery, vanillic/Patch cloud towards base. i think you'll enjoy it..
