Default Fragrance Aficionados: What's Your Guilty Pleasure Scent?

You have your Amouage attar, your gold, leather-wrapped atomizer of Windsor, your satin pillow with a bottle of Clive Christian's Imperial Majesty, and you know how to pronounce Baccarats Les Larmes Sacrees de Thebe. You know who you are.

But, what's your guilty pleasure scent? Is a bottle of Jovan Sex Appeal hidden behind your Xerjoff? Do you have a Le Male air freshener in your car?

For me, it's Acqua di Gio. Love the stuff!

Stand up and share with the group, we won't judge. ;-)

I sneak in a little spray of Acier Aluminum before work now and then. Really not an office scent, IMO. Strangely, I've had several compliments on it at the office; maybe I shouldn't be so quick to label it "not for the office." In any case, it really works if you keep the dose very low. Just one quick spray on the chest, under your undershirt. Perfect longevity and sillage. Still, the well-known "porn star" effect makes it a guilty pleasure for work. Unless you actually are a porn star, I guess.

Acier Aluminum is often listed as a '70s throwback scent on basenotes. Phrases like "mutton chops" and "hairy chest" show up frequently in discussions of it. "'70s porn star" references are in relation to the scent's overbearing sweet-yet-masculine formulation. Kind of like a high-end version of something like Jovan Musk for Men. It was actually released in the early '70s, as I recall. That kind of explains it. For more information - well, just try it, you'll see. . .

Ahh, gotcha. I've read that it is a "throwback" scent as you say, but I didn't make the "porn star" connection. Haven't been able to sample it yet myself, but plan too soon enough.

Oh, yeah - I've got one. I love this stuff, but even my wife hates it. It's the fragrance equivalent of a Dr. Pepper float on a weekend afternoon, and screw the reservations at the sushi bar. I mean, how ridiculous is a bottle that's supposed to look like a cowboy hat? But I swear - the opening of this stuff is just awesome and includes notes from some pricey juices like Riverside Drive and Cereus no.14.

Fun fact - there is an impression of a GUITAR PICK in the glass on the bottom. You can see the end of it just barely in the picture above.

PS - yeah, I wish I had a daughter. One of the Harajuku Lovers scents is an awesome vanilla gourmand that could have been marketed as an ultra-classy one. No way would my wife ever touch it, but I think it's great.

AdG (Aqua di Gio) -- guilt for not being unique, but that's not my fault!
Bois d' Encens (Armani Prive) -- doubly guilty: it's overpriced so I feel like I'm wasting money and for its "abuse" of a note some may think is only appropriate for their particular religion.

I love Givenchy's Play and Play Intense. I think they're both excellent, fun, lighthearted, easy to wear but most of all enjoyable scents. And although I used to really dislike him, I don't think Justin Timberlake is so bad anymore either; he redeemed himself with his work on SNL.

I keep a bottle of Gucci Rush (for women). I had wanted to give it to my lady but it seems 'too young & loud' for her and I simply can't bear to part with it. I take a sniff of it when the mood strikes. I call it my secret lover, lol.

Considering all my stuff is "sub-standard" by this forum's standards, i'll have to go to my "mall" or "teen" fragrances. Mine? Fierce by Abercrombie. I honestly enjoy this stuff alot, its a damn good woody, musky fragrance, my taste has just transitioned to gourmands, gourmands, and you guessed it, gourmands, so i dont use it alot any more. The really guilty part? i wear it to drive the ladies loco (this stuff is a powerful fragrance in terms of sexuality, i think it's the musk)

That's a bit harsh, we all have fragrances which are not mega-expensive niche items and enjoy them. A fragrance is a fragrance and if you enjoy them then there's nothing sub-standard about them. Beauty is in the nose of the beholder...

Yeah, no need to be harsh on your collection. Besides, you've got some real classics (even if some of them are truly love it or hate it scents) such as Fahrenheit, Joop!, Pi, Le Male, Rochas Man, and Fierce.

Nothing to be ashamed about at all!

oh im not ashamed at all haha, i enjoy almost everything i have and simply just don't find the niche market appealing. i said my stuff is "sub-standard" because the topic is mostly addressed to the members who really know fragrances and prefer niche over designer...i couldn't tell you a damn thing about 90% of niche houses lol
