Default Christian Dior Poison! Your thoughts?

I was wandering what do some of you guys think of Christian Dior's Poison? I know it is marketed for women, but alot of men also wear it as well,.. Do you all really think it can be a unisex frag? & if so, is it more on the feminine or manly side of unisex?

It's good. Never thought of it as unisex. Will have to revisit it soon.

I think its definitely on the feminine side... not so much a unisex scent at all, though I do know a good handful of men who wear this. Paging Le Grand Duc to the front desk!

It smells like grape soda to me, which isn't so much girly as immature. If you're young (or young at heart) enough to pull it off, go for it. That being said, a lot of teenage girls wore this in the 80's, which means that a lot of grown women recognize it, if you're comfortable with that...

It seems to have a vibe akin to Escada Magnetism and some of other Dior’s in that it could swing either way. Men should be able to pull it off. Go for it if you like it. The worst could happen is that people think you just had a massive session with your GF. Big deal.

I think Poison smells feminine. Try Midnight Poison instead.

Thanks! I love the smell of grape so this would be ideal for me.

Uber-powerful frag that has one leg in fruity and another in floral.

It's the first one I ever purchased as a 14-yr-old.

Was expensive back then, so could only afford one, but I bought a 50ml bottle that came in the hexagonal box with gold elastic cords to hold it in place.

It sat for years in a drawer in my room, until my mum eventually annexed it when I was away for my studies and I sort of gave it to her after she would ask me for a single daub of the scent on her neck before she went out for formal occassions and I got sick of it after many such occasions so it became hers!

Too bad the bottle went missing over the years as the 50ml splash esprit de parfum is now a rare size and very difficult to find.

Luckily I also kept another 30ml bottle(almost full) that I had bought about 5 years after the first one(and saving hard for it).

Once, I spilt a teeny bit of the green juice on a tissue while cleaning the bottle and the plum-tuberose-opoponax notes filled the whole room for the day, and the base notes lasted a full six days on that tissue!

Recently, I took the bottle out to admire it,without opening the bottle, while the dog was a couple of metres away and she started sniffing the air in the direction of the bottle!

Powerful powerful stuff, and perhaps, hence the name. Btw, exposing the unopened bottle in my room ensures I have no mosquito bites by the next morning.

    But decidedly feminine, IMO.

Whether it smells masculine or feminine is in the nose of the beholder. That is unless you solely base your purchases on marketing without smelling things, like some do.

    I'm here, I'm here ... LOL!

Not much more to be said, though.
It's not as male friendly as Hypnotic or Midnight,
and the vintage Poison is better for a man than
    the modern version is.
And if you can get your fingers on the Esprit de
Parfum as Domperrier mentions that would be the
    best!

I'm one of the men who wears Poison with pride,
but, then again, I'm not affraid of smelling 'feminine',
    not at all!

I am smelling Dior Poison for the first time. I'm really interested in Dior at the moment and I happen to find a bottle that belongs to my mother!

I'm smelling this for the pure art of perfumery. I dont think its something I'd wear in public, but smelling it right now I really respect it for what it is. Its a masterpiece of perfumery IMO.

It starts of extremely strong with a huge blast of grape, red wine, and plum. As it dries down I am getting a honeyed blackberry kind of smell. I'm getting some rose in the background as well. Great fragrance! Really makes me curious to try the rest of the Poison line!

I found Midnight Poison sufficiently wearable to have purchased a 50ml bottle of the pure parfum, and I am normally not a great fan of Dior fragrances.(Apologies to Le Grand Duc.) Midnight Poison is, however, in my opion a winner.

    My dearest Danny,

As must difference as there can be in various vintage EdTs,
the same is true with parfum.
Some have survived the 80s with a lot more of their oomph
    than others.
Mine can surely knock out the whole North Korean army.

Maybe this is the case. The parfums are discontinued for a long time now, maybe mine was not kept very well.
Mine has the same strenght as the EDT Vintage, but more rich.

In smell i prefer the vintage EDC, it wears like a purplee grape extrait, nothing chypre nor skanky nor old lady vibe, only a delicious grape extrait, veeery purplish. Last and project like a pure parfum too, forget the EDC concentration!
The Esprit de Parfum is the one that i like least, hmmm, sour and kinda rancid...

The current EDT is definitely on the feminine side. Not girly, but loaded with enough tuberose, jasmine, stewed fruit, and coriander to conjure up images of well-heeled broads out on the town - or your mother or aunt - circa 1987. That said, it's also been reformulated into a kinder, gentler version of its '80s self, so it lacks the face-slapping wallop of near-virility that the vintage juice had, making it even less theoretically wearable for men. If you love it, go for it, but I do find it rather distinctly feminine (albeit feminine from another, more interesting era).

As for the other Poisons, Pure and Tendre are as blatantly feminine-leaning as the original, perhaps more so. I haven't smelled Midnight. Hypnotic shouldn't work as a unisex in theory, but somehow it does, at least once the initial blast of sweet sillage dies down. If you can wear Bulgari Black, Patchouli 24, or Dior Addict, you can certainly pull off Hypnotic Poison.

Dude it is a chicks fragrance. Why would you even think of buying it?

All joking aside, in this society, people have a preconceived notion on how a man and how a woman is supposed to smell. This is mainly do to years and years of certain types of scents being marketed for a certain sex. If you don't care what others think, I say go for it if you like the way it smells. I do care what others think as far as the way I smell. That is half the reason why I wear fragrances (the other half being for myself). This is why I wear more masculine frags and unisex frags. If it is leaning a bit past unisex and toward feminine, I generally pass.

Grand duc, let me ask a question while you are here. I've never seen people mentioning dior midnight poison being reformulated. But, I have recently bought a 50ml bottle, and it's far too fruity and far less patchouli-ey to my nose. Is my sniffer broken?

    Best regards

    Your Excellency Viscount de Patates,

The only Poisons which have been messed with recenty,
to my knowledge, are the Elixirs.
But, they have messed with a lot ot other Diors within the
    last couple of months: the Dior Homme collection; J'Adore;
Miss Dior Chérie, so, maybe they've messed with Midnight,
too? I really couldn't say. I have it in my collection, so I don't
sniff the ones I see in stores. I wouldn't be surpriced if they
had f**ked this one up, too, though!

    Yours sincerely,

The Grandest Duke of them All
