Patchouli 24 by Le Labo & Lonestar Memories by Tauer Perfumes.
I've got Patchouli 24. I'll have to revisit that one.
Kolnisch Juchten... smoke, tar, leather...(kind of meaty, bacon-y even.) But that may be TOO smoky. (I like it though as it smooths out after the initial BBQ smoke opening.)
Not for the faint of heart, but Tauer's Lonestar Memories he describes as "an ode to birch tar." And the memories involve cowboys sitting around the campfire.........so it should be right up this alley!
Patchouli 24 is the most birch tar saturated fragrance I've ever worn and it keeps on giving (softening up with balsams) without ever becoming tedious in a way that destroys my interest. They say Annick Menardo is always angry, and Patchouli 24 was probably fun for her to make. But it's more mono-maniacally focused and cerebral rather than angry.

Knize Ten is pretty serious birch tar, too, although nicely balanced with florals. Cuir Mauresque may have been toned down at some point, but it certainly has a birch tar note. And if you've never read through the wonderful leather series at Perfume Shrine, you'll get lots of suggestions there.

1776 Russian Leather....Elsha. Might be what your looking for, and from a price point It's a steal.
I'll put in a third vote for Kolnisch Junchten. It's actually almost gross, but it's the smokiest, scariest, purest birch tar scent ever. If you can imagine the smell of someone setting a hide-tanning factory on fire in the middle of a forest, you're halfway there. After a few hours, I personally think it smells like that salted Dutch licorice, but leathery and smoldering. It's the ballsiest fragrance I've ever smelled.
Has everyone checked out my Top 100 Blog??

Knize Ten and Lonestar Memories I have both, I wear both and I enjoy both. (just be gentle on the trigger)
The only thing that interferes with my learning is my education.
Another vote for Lonestar. You DO get smoke--as in a campfire.
You may wish to try Shalimar EDP for the smokiness, too.
I do not get smoke in Cuir Ottoman, but a nice iris/jasmine leather.

I have Elsha 1776. I don't get smoke with it, but there is some leather. It comes off as sweet (not burning or burnt) incense to me, but I love it.
Although a room fragrance, Essence of John Galliano by Diptyque smells amazing. This has more birch tar than any other fragrance I've encountered.
Cuir de Russie by Chanel has an amazing leathery birch tar note as well.
