Aromatics Elixir today again, I am smitten. I kept getting delicious little wafts of an oily leather note yesterday that was never quite discernable up close - on my skin it's hidden under the greenery, rose, ylang, moss, patchouli and sandalwood, but it seems to have more lift off the skin than some of the other notes.

    Scent of the Evening

Bought this one today, it's quite similar to the regular EdT,
but fresher, more citrusy in a way. I needed to have them
both on at once, to fully sence the difference.
Ironic enough, I find the original Hypnotic Poison more
    sensuel than this one.

It's an EdT, but has monster sillage and longevity.

Well my SOTD was Penhaligon's Maharanih, which is a lovely light oriental, very wearable.
But while in town this afternoon, I tried Sensuous Noir on one hand and Bulgari Jasmin Noir on the other. The Sensuous Noir was very nice and as a reviewer elsewhere noted a perfectly good 'what to wear when you don't know what to wear' perfume. But the Jasmin Noir was glorious; still is, in fact. I keep going back to the back of my hand and sniffing away. It really does have a high-quality smell to it that I can't explain but am seriously impressed by. I'm not usually a huge jasmine fan, but this one I might be persuaded to get a decant of.
High praise from me, these days!

I wanted to honor JC Ellena today (inspired by an interview in a thread on the Frag Industry forum), but alas I have nothing by him at all, except a decant of Terre d'Hermes that I might save for SnS this Saturday. So I'm polishing off a sample of L'Artisan's L'Ete en Douce instead - mint, rose, orange blossom, hay, white woods, and white musk - it's very nice!

Am in Samsara today, a damp, cloudy, muggy-warm day and it's perfect! (and I still don't get a reek of synthetic wood or the "cheap & nasty" some folks experience... just a slightly fruity, slightly floral, sandalwoody loveliness without too much vanilla in the drydown.)

Roberto - You smell wonderful in your Vetiver!

Joining Quarry and NYCBoy in the house of Hermes, wearing Eau Claire des Merveilles (from a sample). This scent is due to be released this month (if not already?). I liked it a lot when I first tested it in July, and now on the second (and all day) wearing, I admit that I adore it!

There are light citrus notes...sweet rather than tart, that are constant all the way into the dry down. There's a sparkling cola note which I should hate, but instead find absolutely charming (who knew?). The description indicates floral notes, however if I smell anything floral, I would say perhaps lily. I also sense a touch of something like ripe melon and cardamom. There are beachy/salty notes, somewhat like the ambergris in Eau des Merveilles, but it’s attenuated in ECdM. There is a very subdued vanilla (very Ellena-style) that carries all of the other notes along. Overall, the scent has a milky quality – which again, should turn me off, but instead fascinates me with its unusual character. I keep getting little bursts of the scent throughout the day, and every time I do, I think “Oh! That is so beautiful!”

To me, this is a soft, fruity-milky, slightly spicy fragrance that feels sensuous and elegant.

    Top notes
    Citrus Notes, Aldehydes
    Middle notes
    Floral Notes, Spices
    Base notes
    Vanilla Notes, Powdery

Theorema notes from Perfume Intelligence: top notes of tangelo, shamouti orange, jasmine and eglantine, heart notes of osmanthus, jasmine, cinnamon, pink pepper and Afghan spices, on base notes of sandalwood, patchouli, musk and vetiver.

Both Leggero and Esprit D'ete have a similar DNA but are softer versions. All 3 are D/C'ed, and the on-line prices keep going up because of that. I like all 3 but if I had to grab one and run out the door in an earthquake, it would be the original version, Theorema.
