Oh dear! Thanks for the heads up.
Thread: Scam: Be Alert
Last night I received notice from a retailer and a Basenotes member, that a fraudster had joined Basenotes and has been using the private messaging system to contact members asking if they would be interested in some discounted high-end fragrances.
The fraudster would then place an order with a stolen credit card and have the goods shipped directly to you.
The fraudster is now banned from the website, and we will be keeping a close eye out in case he returns. However, there are many ways for people to circumvent website's blocking them, so we ask you to be aware and use your common sense.
If you are contacted be a member privately about a deal, and they have no/little feedback, low post count, or recent join date - then be wary. If it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't.
You can report a Private Message to the moderators using this button here at the bottom left of the message.

I must admit though, somehow this sounds exciting!
(Unless one's been duped I suppose)
Thanks for letting us know. Grant.
Petty small minded people have no place in my life.
I think I may have been contacted by this person, glad I didn't do the deal now!
Thanks for the heads-up, Grant!

Thanks - I did get a slightly odd one a little while back but politely declined . . . may just have been someone who was a bit keen.
I was contacted in the exact same manner as boosh described in post #12.

Thank you so much for this alert! I am the type of person who could fall for such a scam artist. A few tears, some niche brand names, etc., etc., and I might well be calling VISA within a few days. If I have a fragrance that is still good, but not one I wear enough to let go bad, I'd just give it away. I should hire a 'fragrance secretary' to manage and organize my totally ridiculous hoard of samples, bottles, and decants.
Thank you for looking out for us Grant.
Hope no-one else tries to spoil this wonderful
site for us. There are some mercenary people
out there for sure.

Thanks for the heads up.
Thank you for the alert, Grant.
As a new member, it is nice to know that information like this is being communicated. Thanks for the FYI.
