Default Looking for a good Rose scent

Recently I've been inspired by vintage beauty products as a way of livening up my daily routine--kickin' it old school, as it were. One such addition has been Pond's Cold Cream to cleanse/moisturize my face at the end of the day, and I've fallen in love with its delicate rose scent that's a little old-timey but not cloying. Does anyone recommend a good (possibly vintage, although I'd appreciate something that's still in production and relatively easy to find), delicate rose-based or rose-inspired fragrance? I'm looking for something light, airy, and feminine.

    Absolutely!
Woods of Windsor True Rose and Yardley English Rose fit your description ("light, airy and feminine"), both affordable and available at shopLondons.com:

By the way, welcome to Basenotes!

edit: sophi's suggestion, AG Rose Absolue, is an excellent one as well.

I think my absolute favorite rendition of "vintage beauty product" type of rose has to be Frederic Malle's Lipstick Rose. It's a little pricey, but just great; fun, pretty, and clever, with a touch of wistfulness.

Oh yes Malle Lipstick Rose smells like old fashion classic makeup. Very retro.

Caron Rose, now I have the extract version but it is a gorgious rose not heavy or sickly.

You might want to give a try to Un Zeste de Rose by Les Parfums de Rosine. A fresh rose scent.

There is a Barneys in Chicago-- they carry Frédéric Malle and Diptyque so they'll have Lipstick Rose and L'Ombre Dans L'Eau (I love this by the way, but it's dark: Bulgarian rose and black currant leaves.)

Barneys also carries some of the Rosine perfumes but if they don't have that specific one, you can get samples of all the Rosine perfumes (all roses) at the Les Parfums de Rosine website for 20 Euros, postage included (see the "échantillons" = sample vials) :
    http://www.les-parfums-de-rosine.com...t&rub=boutique

Chicago also has a Saks; our Saks carries Creed (so you can try Fleur de Thé Rose Bulgare) and possibly Goutal's Rose Absolue. Goutal is just this month coming out with a new one, Rose Splendide. Description here: http://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/A...dide-9392.html

For that matter, I found this announcement of a limited edition trio by Goutal very interesting:

Try the Juliette Has A Gun original line--they are based on roses. I adore Citizen Queen, a rose/leather.

Otherwise, I like Stella McCartney, Lancome Mille et Une Roses and Rose Muskissme. These are all rose/musk.

Bulgari pour Femme is an (reasonably priced) alternative solution for Lipstick Rose. Wonderful combination of tender rose and violet. Although I LOVE Lipstick, it's sometimes way too heavy for me. Considering this, Bulgari is much more soft and tender powdery interpretation of a rose

Rose scents reminiscent of moisturising creams? Try Encre Noire pour Elle, which a pre-eminent fragrance blogger accurately described as drying down to a Nivea cream-like clean rose. Upon application it reminds me strongly of Amouage Lyric Man, which i also own.

Straight straight and simple rose for not many bucks - Yves Rocher Secrets d'essences Rose
Interesting, salty, rose with woody underpinnings, also available for not much - Gres Cabaret
Vanillic, sexy, fun rose - Rochas Tocade

All well worth a try, but I have a hunch the Yves ROcher one might be bang on - oh, and it has body products as well, I think.

I love the Rosines, which are a little hard to find, but available on some of the more upscale online sites (and a few on the big sites.) My favorite is Rose Kashmarie, with a saffron note, but there is also Rose Diavolo (a pure rose with a little mint) or Zest de Rose (with a little citrus). Both of those are light. Rose Praline has a sweet, almost caramel opening with a pure rose finish. Secrets de Rose is a little Goth, similar to L'Artisan's Voleur Rose, with patchouli.

My favorite rose of all is (sadly) discontinued, but can be found on fleabay. It's L'Arte de Gucci, a knock-em-dead very sexy, very animalic rose. Agent Provocateur is a nice fresh woody rose which can be found on the discount sites.

l would recommend Stella McCartney also, but if you're after something light & airy, go for the Sheer Stella version, it's quite beautiful & very feminine.

    YSL Paris

Another vote here for Paris by YSL. It's one of my favorite frags ever; a true icon of the perfumer's art.

And I'd like to add Nahema (Guerlain) - a gorgeous rose/peach scent that lasts all day on me and is full of rich, delicious notes! Plus, I think - someone tell me if I'm wrong - that Caron's N'Aimez que Moi is the scent used for Caron's face powder, so another vintage link here (NQM was composed during WW1 for soldiers to give their sweethearts as they left for the front - the delicate, yearning scent would remind the ladies of their men away at war!) Worth a sniff, I'd say.

There are lots of good rose recs here, but many of these are far from what I'd call light and airy (seriously - Lipstick Rose, L'Arte di Gucci, Nahema, Rose Kashmirie, Paestum Rose....do y'all really find these delicate?)

I'm going to second 30 Roses suggestions of Woods of Windsor's True Rose and Yardley's English Rose. Rosine's Rose d'Eté Eau Fraiche would also fit the bill for light, fresh and feminine roses. Lancome's Mille et Une Roses and Bulgari's Rose Essentielle are also very light and beautiful, but their longevity on me is abysmal. Same with Stella McCartney's Rose Absolute, but the staying-power of that one seems to depend on the weather....ymmv, of course.

However, if you like that makeup-y accord, then definitely try Le Pot Aux Roses by Stephanie de Saint-Aignan - this is Lipstick Rose's delicate little sister, just a perfectly gorgeous and feminine whisper of old-fashioned rose-scented makeup. Very pretty and charming, and I think it might be just what you're looking for.
