Thread: Dark notes

    Default Dark notes

I have been wanting to create a very dark and smoky fragrance using essential oils, so if you guys can write a list of as many dark notes as you can, would be great. I may not use all, but I like to see my options. Thanks.

Why not take a look at some note pyramids for the kind of frag you are trying to create? One thing to consider is if you want to soften it up a bit with some amber or keep it dry and harsh, with very little if any amber.

Oakmoss and bergamot can make it dark IMO

Birch tar and Haitian vetiver might give you some of the smokiness. Whether you build it around a fougere or chypre accord, myrrh, geranium, galbanum, oak moss, spanish moss, and some roses don't do much to "lighten" a scent.

Seconding birch tar and vetiver, especially, as well as oakmoss and patchouli. Anything laden with the first two will smell dark and smoky.

Vetiver plus lavender in the right porportions plus some light - a synthetic musc, celery - as to render the dark visible ;-)
