Default has anyone tried John Varvatos Artisan "black" ?

Got it as a gift from my CEO today. it's not bad really. sorta like a tangy version of Polo Explorer. i liked this one better though. basenotes is not all that impressive, however, a pleasant wear overall with a good vibe to it. good for daily wear.

EDIT: nothign black about it...maybe they are referring to the leathery drydown.

Yes, I've tried it and I like it too. Since it seemed very similar to the original (which I already own) I didn't feel the need to buy it just yet (I have samples of Black.) When I run out of the original, I will probably purchase the Black version because of it's superior sillage and longevity to that of the original. I agree, there's nothing "black" about the fragrance--except the wicker surrounding the bottle.

I tried it and did not like it - but I did not like the original Artisan either.

I liked it better than the original Artisan - which I already have and am not terribly excited about. If I get a Varvatos at this point, it would probably be the original Varvatos.

I tried Artisan Black for the second time yesterday, and it's not that bad at all. It reminds me a lil bit of Bleu de Chanel, because of the citrus, jasmine, and ginger notes; but, I actually prefer Artisan Black's leathery over Bleu de Chanel's boring dry down.

Sillage is pretty good too for the first 2-3 hours, and it lasted 6+ hours on my skin.

I love Artisan and so was excited to try Black. On the card, Black smell great. I was eager to buy it, but the SA insisted I take home a sample and try it on a few times. I'm thankful for that. On me, it just smells dirty. I still almost went back to buy a bottle just to spray on cards and smell.

Its black rattan wrapped bottle is nice too. I'm definitely going to buy one, but only when it gets discontinued and its price goes down.
