Sampling Domenico Caraceni 1913 once again (I first sampled it over a year ago but the rest of the sample evaporated.. finally got a new one).

It's ok. I'm with the crowd who think it's kind of ho-hum though. I mean, it smells good, albeit a bit muddled, but it's really not as deep or dark as it's made out to be. I wish I could say more but it's not inspiring me. 3 stars. Average.

Jacomo Aura for Men (2000) Henri Bergia Woody Fougère
    ------------------
Top Notes: Juniper, Clary Sage, Green Lemon, Ginger •Middle Notes: Green Tea, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Tonka Bean, Tobacco Leaves •Base Notes: Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Musk, Patchouli, Amber, Cistus
    ------------------

Compared to other Jacomos I have known, this seems to be returning to old-school tastes. It has a much better overall projection and sillage (but sadly, not much longevity), and carries the spicy-woody fougère genre back to its roots in the early 80s. Juniper and clary sage are among my favorite top notes, and are only a little bit held back by the ginger in the top. The rest of the spicy notes are dead-on, and complement the tobacco leaf note in the heart. The addition of cistus labdanum in the base is an noticeable plus, too.

Guerlain's Samsara Parfum. Guerlain explains the Hindu name in an advertisement stating that "Samsara is an invitation to serenity and harmony with oneself and the world", which strictly speaking is a misconception because it's in fact liberation from saṃsāra that is considered serene in Hinduism, not saṃsāra itself. That said, Samsara's symmetric arrangement and immaculate materials exude a tranquil fullness, quite baroque and true to its motto. I'm off to Paris and the guerlinade temple tomorrow!

Cologne Pour le Matin by Maison Francis Kurkdjian (first time from a sample - thanks Buzzlepuff!)

This smells exactly as I expected it to: soapy, fresh and yet also a bit like a Febreze or hand-wipe scent. Not a bad thing, but a familiar olfactory association.
