Default Has anyone tried Acqua Di Parma Colonia Essenza?

Looking for opinions on this one. I know the original is highly praised here. Thanks!

I have. Top notes are quite similar to the original one. Middle and base notes smell almost exactly like eau sauvage to my nose.

I have only tested it on a paper strip. It did come across as similar to original Colonia except a little more soapy. As time went on, it became a lot more soapy than original Colonia. Actually, it became soap (a good quality soap, but soap all the same).

I seem to perceive dominant Orange Blossom or Neroli notes as soap (apparently this is quite common). So I would say this is AdP's take on Penhaligon's Castille.

Acqua di Parma Colonia Essenza (2010) Eau de Cologne
    ------------------
Top Notes: Grapefruit, Mandarin Wood, Oil of Petitgrain •Middle Notes: Rosemary, Rose, Jasmine, Lily of the Valley •Base Notes: Patchouli, White Musk
    ------------------
Very nice cologne in the traditional style: very citrusy on top. The heart deviates a bit from the formula with an unusual lily-of-the-valley note and a tad more floral depth than some. The base is the most innovative element, a bit deeper than most with patchouli; and slightly "fizzy" with some bright musk note. Close enough to the old-school cologne to be comforting; just daring enough to be interesting.

I found it to be a cross between The ADP Original and ADP Intensa. Liked it though and will by it when I go to New York

I have purchased it since I created this thread and am wearing it right now. I love it. This could be my signature for a while. That's how much.

Smells good but I think it would be better on a woman than a man.

Very similar to the original but I find the longevity better--my preferred AdP for that reason

I think it's a very good fragrance and sits up well with the others in the series, it has a little more depth to it, kind of like a "dark" Assoluta.

I think Acqua di Parma is the most over-hyped, over-priced house in existence.

Then don't buy any. Awesome contribution to the thread BTW.

On Topic: AdP seems to own the "traditional cologne & slight variations of it" niche. Essenza is another winner IMHO.

    .
sorry, i was just conducting an experiment.

you're right, that wasn't a contribution at all.

and the truth is, i like AdP. I am anticipating Essenza quite a bit!

Tried it today, and I also smell Eau Savage in the topnotes, and they are just the notes I dislike in Eau Savage. But,fortunately, that note dissapears quickly, and then the lovely part starts. Its fresh and woody and after 8 hours its still here, and still very nice!!I thinks its so good that I take the topnotes for what they are,and put this on my wishlist.

What a beautiful, reserved, distinguished juice this truly is. Very classy. Reminds me a bit of Habit Rouge in it's dignified, grown-up powderiness.

I purchased Essenza a few weeks back, and think it's a stunning fragrance. I find that it has more depth than the original colonia which I also love. Longevity is pretty good as well, anywhere from 6-8 hours.

It's my favorite AdP - only wish the longevity was a bit more.

It's nice, but I actually prefer AdP Intensia and the original AdP slightly more, but Essenza is still very nice, and longevity is not all that bad either IMO

I'm wearing it today in fact and enjoying it very much. I find it less hypo floral than the original. It will probably replace my Eau Sauvage, which has come to mind during the wearing. A more rounded and deeper scent in comparison. I used in combination with Acqua di Parma Colonia after shave balm so the fragrance cocoon has been quite pleasant indeed.

I can't find any that I dislike from this line. Very difficult to choose one I like the most. Love the Blue Mediterraneo line as well. Very practical scents and great for travelling or if you want a safe fragrance when you are out in public.

I quite agree with you all. Colonia original was my first niche - I don't wear it that often as you need the heat for this to project well. I picked up Essenza recently and it's definitely a cooler weather scent. I will be using it a lot more as the weather deteriorates (even further) here.

Blue Mediterraneo is also cool. My favourite is Mirto although I have yet to invest in a bottle. I might do so soon though!!

Like very much, but struggle with longevity. Behind the original but ahead of Intensa for me.

Surprised to read that so many have longevity issues with any of the AdP line. Both original Colonia and Essenza for me are projection monsters. I've smelt these on my clothes/me for as much as 12 hours+. I have even been in the shower the morning after applying the fragrances and still getting whiffs of them!

The only problem I have with the AdP line is Intensa I think. Can't smell it at all - I am completely anosmic to it!!

    I thought that was Creed.
Anyway I thought Essenza was great though there are cheaper frags I like just as much.
How come it says "Banned" where it normally says "super member" with your info?
