Default suggestions for a herbs de provence cologne pls...

LT mentions this in the a-z guide though i forgot which one he was reviewing but i'd like some suggestions for some herbal/ foody but not sweet colognes...

and if there is a definitive cologne in this style it would be great if you could point me to it...

do any l'occitanes count? they're the provence firm i'm most familiar with. i should read up on those.

    thanks!

I think it might be in LT's review of Apres L'Ondee, in which he says:

Guerlain suffuses the whole thing with optimistic sunlight by using, as in so many of their classic fragrances, a touch of what a chef would call bouquet de Provence: thyme, rosemary, sage. This discreet hint of earthly pleasures is what makes Apres L'Ondee smile through its tears.

    Hope that helps.

aha thanks! yes that helps very much!

    so...

    thyme, rosemary, sage.
    hmm....

i was also thinking of other foody notes like the cilantro in live jazz. yum!

Have you tried Declaration? Many associate it with curry.

I was instantly thinking of Apres L'Ondee too.

I get a strong Mediterranean vibe from Tuscany. Very herbes de Provence IMO.

My scent of the day, Coriolan by Guerlain, definitely has strong thyme and sage notes in it, have you tried it? I could see it resembling the smell of Herbes De Provence...

Also Yatagan by Caron has a great complex herbal profile featuring wormwood, so it's a good deal more bitter than Coriolan, but I love that!

virgilio from diptyque comes up in a lot of threads i've searched as well. also mentioned in the guide. i dunno if i'd ever get around to buying it though since i'd buy philosykos first if i ever went that way.

i have not tried any of the suggestions so far so i'm writing them down and maybe try and sniff some in the following weeks.

Not Provencal, but the epitome of Tuscany, if that's OK, too: Lorenzo Villoresi Spezie. I can't recommend it enough. It's such a burst of herbs and spices! Wonderful and unique.

Doesn't Herbes de Provence have lavender in it, though? Maybe that is a note to consider in your search
