London is great. Hard to improve on that one for a winter scent. +1 on the Rive Gauche. Certainly cost effective. Not really a blind buy, though.

Fall/winter always mean more smoky, incense-type scents for me.
Gucci pour Homme is a classic of its kind.*

Also seconding the M7 recommendation, for similar reasons - it's a deep sweet woody scent which really comes into its own in cooler weather.

    * EDIT: Just saw your signature line and the item you have for sale, so scratch that GPH recommendation ... I gotta read these things more carefully before I post a response!

I LOVE Michael Kors and John Varvatos, but would they be appropriate for a college atmosphere? I don't want to feel out of place if you know what I mean?

I have recently been extremely impressed with Spiritueuse Double Vanille and Sequoia especially when carefully combined or perhaps carefully layered with Aqua di Gio (e.g. a little Sequoia with AdG or a little SDV with AdG). Heck, go wood crazy and combine Tom Ford's Oud Wood with Sequoia!

Herrera for Men, Tom Ford's Oud Wood, will probably remain my "night at the opera" scents although Millesime Imperial seems to work for nearly all occasions except funerary rites or job interviews.

Forthrightly though, and bluntly put, you can rub feces in your hair and a woman will say it smells great if she really likes you. That means, beware if you judge what smells good on you based on her opinion; get at least a second one from someone who is less blinded by love.

    College huh?
    Wanna get mad chicks?
Want a smell that wont annoy your classmates?
Want the FUNNEST fragrance to tell people you are wearing?
    (except maybe for "secretions magnifiques"!)

Buy a bottle of Molecule 01!
I wear it everyday, even when I wear other fragrances because it acts like salt does with food and it enhances any fragrance you wear it with. Amazing when sprayed on clothing too, lasts for a days on clothing!!!

If you're still in college, try:

Zirh Ikon by Zirh - One is initially treated to a zesty lemonade. Tart and tangy lemon interplays with davona flower, with its sweetly fruity aspect, and cardamon, with its mildly spicy, anise-tinged facets. Ginger sprinkles the melange with its peppery, lemony and green character. Transitioning to the heart, the citric brew succumbs to the darker aspects of the scent. Labdanum infuses its resinous, myrhh-like and slightly leather-like facets, commingling with a raw, spicy cinnamon as well as clove buds, with their charred-wood and smokey aroma. An undercurrent of a citrusy, pine-like frankincense and earthy, green vetiver adds to the mystical aura, and flows to the base. Here, a rich amber alters the accommodating frankincense, which has come into its own, to a darker character. And, an almost creamy cedarwood intermingles with a balsamic patchouli, which imparts its earthiness coupled with camphoraceous and mossy nuances. An inviting drydown ensues. This manly composition is well blended, and challenges the domain of niche. A fall and winter scent, this spicy and dark fragrance has good projection, a 2-3 hour, scent cloud, and longevity, about 8 hours. Given its inexpensive price, it is a welcomed addition to one's fragrance wardrobe.

Pure Malt for those special events.
Hoping Boss Bottled will work this winter. If not, it's back to Lacoste Pour Homme (Gosh, I love that stuff!).
