    Thumbs up Most masculine scent?

    Hi everybody!

I might be in the minority, but I don't like the citrus or floral scents for men's colognes. I am looking for a rugged, masculine cologne, mostly for office wear. I am in my late 30s and am willing to spend up to $100. What are your favorites? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Yatagan or Aramis if you want to go full-tilt, hairy-chested manly; Gucci pour Homme for something more polished but still very masculine. Both can be found for under $40.

The above are in the woody/smoky/leather/spicy registers; if you want to go the classic fougere route (which might be a better choice for office wear) I don't think you can do much better than Azzaro. A rightful classic, and another under-$40 bargain.

"rugged" or not, from my everyday/office rotation:
    Knize Ten
    Caron, Yatagan
    Jacques Bogart, Bogart
    Givenchy, Xeryus
    Knize Forest
    Puig, Quorum
    Bogart, One Man Show

Caveats: The last two are more appreciated in the office if I spray a bit less than usual. OMS has a devil of a "perfumey" opening for the first minute.

Honorable mention to English Leather - I frequently wear the stick deodorant, which goes well with nearly everything I wear.

Perhaps something like Quorum, which will cost you well under 100.

If You define Yourself by fragrance just follow the suggestions given, Anybody would take the radiated attitude as You wanting to be known by fragrance. Wether or not that frag being specific at all, never mind!

If You like frags for themselves and do like them Yourself, just look out for something that pleases You Yourself in the first place. Then, later on you may be asked about it, intimately. It may feel better, if then You are self confident about that, what smelled the whole day long that outstanding ...

Aramis Tuscany, or if you don't mind extending your budget a bit, Bois Du Portugal by Creed. For daily office wear, Parfums De Nicolai's New York is a great masculine, with the rougher edges smoothed down a tad.

+1 again for Gucci Pour Homme. That is like say 'everyday' office wear.

But if you want something for that special/important office occasion, like a serious meeting where you don the power suit and tie and walk in the room like the big shot -> DEFINITELY check out TOM FORD GREY VETIVER.

To me when I smell that, that is its sole purpose in existing.

I am one of those people who will not gender-classify scent, but if you are wishing to avoid citrus and floral, try MPG Parfum d'Habit.

This is an interesting scent that is elegant with a leather note.

Our shamu called it "insanely masculine" and "aggressive."

Off-Scenter called it "an unbuttoned shirt, hairy-chested, testosterone bomb of a scent." LOL!

On the down-side, this retails for slightly more than your price cap.

I would say Guerlain vetiver would work or something from the aramis line would be good place to start.

Can't believe no-one mentioned Eucris and Basala!

Said it before and I say again: Basala is like tongues of fire licking a totem of utter manhood.

L'Homme by Roger & Gallet. A forgotten masterpiece of smooth manliness.
Azzaro Pour Homme. I think the zenith of its' type.
Original Chaps by Ralph Lauren...recently discontiunued but super manly.
Francesco Smalto Pour Homme and Jacomo...smokey manliness.
Jovan Musk for men...70's sensitive manly.
Obsession for men Calvin Klein...80's urban manliness.

Not the most but definetely very masculine:

    Terre d´Hermes
    Rive Gauche pour Homme
"Wow, I've never smelled anything like that before."

    Within your price range:
    Chanel Antaeus
    Aramis
    Aramis Havana
    YSL Rive Gauche
    Azzaro Pour Homme
    Guerlain Heritage

Not quite as testosterone laden as the above, but more appropriate for office wear:
    Chanel Pour Monsieur

My impression is that, in general, niche houses don't do masculine nearly as well as designer houses. YMMV.

p.s. not to pick on you personally, elbenja, but this question has been posed about a gazillion times on this board (a few million of them within the last 12 months). Try doing a search on "most masculine" and you'll be rewarded with tons of suggestions.

Dude - I'll totally second the MPG Parfum d'Habit recommendation. Suggested retail is $120USD but it can be found for $90 (I think even on Fragrancenet.com). I'm not particuliarly fond of wicked-macho fragrances, but if you are, this is the one for you. Definitely at least worthy of a sample from theperfumedcourt.com. Give it a shot and let us know what you think!

Some good masculines for office wear that are reasonably priced and not citrus or floral are:

YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme - a classic of lavender, gaiac wood and patchouli - a Lee Marvin style masculine!
Gucci Pour Homme - woods and incense - Don Draper would definitely wear this!
Givenchy Play Intense - Tonka (vanilla) dry woods with a slight petrochemical edge (amyris wood oil) - Arthur Fonzarelli would dig it! I know its sweet and soft, but I like it better than Bois Vanille by Serge Lutens at 1/3 the price!
TF Mosses Breches nice masculine green wooded scent.

Tread carefully, but if worn right, these two are super macho and even good:
    Original Bijan Men
    Kiss Him (seriously!)

And let's not forget Fendi Uomo. Beautiful masculine scent in a ridiculous bottle.

    The spicy triptic:

Jacomo de Jacomo - described as an oriental woody. Top Notes: Galbanum, Lavender, Cardamom. / Middle Notes: Rosewood, Geranium, Cinnamon, Clove, Caraway Seed. / Base Notes: Patchouli, Oakmoss. However, Lavender in the top notes and Oakmoss in the basenotes makes of it a fougere.

Xeryus, by Givenchy - described as an aromatic fougere: Top Notes - Grapefruit, Artemisia. / Middle Notes: Cypress, Gaiac wood, Chinese Cypriol. / Base Notes: Amber.

Open, by Roger & Gallet - described as a woody aromatic. Top notes - Lemon, Bergamot, Lavender / Middle notes - Sage, Thyme / Base notes: Tobacco, Patchouli and Vetiver. However, Lavender in the top notes and woods in the basenotes (patchouly) makes of it an aromatic fougere.

I don't have experience with niche scents, but when it comes to designer's, these ones are not beaten by anything around - see the notes, no sweet accords in them at all (well, one at the most).

I would recommend the new Bulgari Man. Although I wouldn't describe it as "rugged", it is most assuredly masculine and refined, perfect for the office.
