Default SotD, Monday September 27th 2010

Good morning! I'm wearing Olivier Cresp's lush, carnal reformulation of Rochas Femme today. I should really wear this one a lot more often.

Back from SF yesterday. Tired as hell but happy as hell. Great food, too much walking. Sorry to miss the BN meetup there Saturday, but I did think about you guys! It was truly satisfying to finally see the city my son has made his home in. Got to tour Google and lunch there. It was priceless to watch my kids go down the famous Google "slide". Must be nice to have a job overlooking the SF bay bridge. To all you bay area residents: I envy your food, culture variety and views, but NOT the walking/getting around!! Don't think I've ever walked so much (esp vertically). My son lives half mile from the nearest Muni transportation, so every meal/trip must be really planned and thought out. LOVED the area, though!!!!

Today I am in SS Femme Jolie.

I'm wearing Cabochard today, courtesy of my best friend. We decided it would be fun to swap scents from our respective wardrobes this week. We can only choose scents that we don't own. This should be interesting, because we have fairly different tastes. And I am already rethinking my choice of Cabochard as I type this, but hopefully the scent will get better on me as the day progresses. Take care, all.

Today is CdG Avignon -- again. I may be in love.

Also making appearances in different spots on my left hand (because, lord help me, I couldn't wait to try them all): just-arrived samples of PdE's Ambre Russe and Cuir d'Ottoman and CdG's Ouarzazate and Jaisalmer. There is a very good chance my FB wishlist just got longer.

Other samples that I will wait until later this evening to try: Diptype Tam Dao, CdG Kyoto, and CdG Wonderwood.

(Apparently, I'm on a bit of a wood and incense kick, with a little amber and leather thrown in for good measure.)

Leesee, how nice that you have a "real life" friend to play fragrance games with.

30 Roses, I hope you get your sniffer back soon.

Btw, my SotA is a spritz of Opium Poésie de Chine between my wrists; which, compared to Lutens' Un Bois Vanille on my neck, smells like el crapo, and I really like this version of Opium. Just goes to show...quality will out.

    First off, condolences to Haunani.

My SoTD was to "compensate" for something I apparently brought in from the garden on my shoe this morning (LOL)... I cleaned the shoe, but there was a distinctive "barnyard pong" to it... so I oversprayed Terre d'Hermes. (which kind of worked but the "sillage" from the shoe was overpowering the TdH!) ... later I spritzed a sample of Graines de Paradis, which made me smell like a Morrocan spice market surrounded by goats, sheep, and the end-results of both these critters, in combination. Good thing I spent a lot of my day walking around our facility, I'm afraid that my general "atmosphere" was probably a bit on the cringeworthy side!

So to the musky drydown of Graines, I've added "Tea Rose", and now I just smell like a blooming rose that is sitting atop a slightly mucky mulch.

Happy Monday, everyone, and hugs and well wishes to Hanauni or anybody else who wants/needs them. Today I'm in one of my favorites, Chanel No.19 parfum (modern formulation). Lately I've really been sticking with a handful of favorite fragrances, and much of my collection is feeling very ignored.

Yesterday I sampled Mazzolari Lui, and it was a very poor choice for the heatwave we've had here, lol. But, I was at least reminded that Lui is sort of the amber version of Lutens' MKK. That is to say, it is very skanky on the top with civet, castoreum, etc., but like MKK tames rather quickly. The drydown is a very leathery, labdanum-heavy amber/patchouli which will be great in the cooler months. I suppose one could say that after the initial nose-assault, it is rather ho-hum-hippie-shop underneath it all.

DANG, luna. You are such an intrepid layering experimenter. Most folks would have just changed SHOES. LOL!
I'm so cynical at times but I bet the "rose in the maroccan market accord" would sell well with a niche label on it.
