Default Is Bois D'Orage Malle's answer to Creed's Bois du Portugal?

I just smelled Bois D'orage/French Lover and I find a striking resemblance to Bois du Portugal, mind you, it seems like a much more modern take and twist on the Creed. Does anyone else find any similarities between the two or anything else the Malle resembles?

French Lover is my fav from the Malle line, i can see why you might find both scents similar, but i think their sophistication is more similar rather than the actual smell.

Bois d'Orage shares some similarites with CDG's Laurel. Laurel is more linear, and smells more earthy/rugged/outdoorsy whereas Bois d'Orage is green and earthy but still has a bit of that refined urban chic.

French Lover references an earlier work in the EDP line - it was the result of Frederic Malle & Pierre Bourdon pushing the envelope of the earlier collaboration with JCE Angeliques Sous la Pluie - seeing what would happen amping up the angelica.

    Totally different scents.
    Within the Creed line,
I find more similarities in character between Bois D'Orage and Vetiver '48

I'm not that familiar with either Bois D'Orage or Bois du Portugal, but once I smelled the former it instantly brought to memory the Bois Du Portugal. The Malle seemed more refined and more modern. I find the BdP can come off as a bit old manly. But they both game me that deep woody vibe that also brings to mind Obsession by Calvin Klein, but of course on an entirely new level.

Now, that being said, I now have a new dilemma as to which should be my first Malle. Bois d'Orage or Vetiver Extraordinaire. I really enjoy both. I can see how the Vetiver can be more versatile and wearable, but I'm not sure how its projection and longevity would compare to the BdO.

French Lover (Bois d'Orage) & Vetiver Extraordinaire are both solid well respected scents - I think it purely comes down to your own taste, whether you like vetiver as a dominant note or the greener aspect of FL. Why not get samples of both and see how it goes?

No. Bois du Portugal is unique.

I've owned both before and don't find them similar. PdN New York is the usual comparison to BdP but even those two have arguments for being very different.

No similarity whatsoever. Oh, wait, I guess they're both liquids. In all seriousness, Bois d'Orage is a very, dry green incense and vetiver composition, and while I know nothing that smells very much like it, it is much closer in mood to things like Encre Noire, Papyrus de Ciane, Sycomore, or even Polo(!) than to a woody oriental like Bois du Portugal. The Creed has much more in common with scents like Héritage and New York than with Bois d'Orage.

    Hope that's a help!

Bois D'Orage reminds me of Amouage Memoir Man (or vice versa since the latter was released after the former).

Creed's Bois du Portugal reminds me of Noir Epices (save the geranium) because they both are woody orientals and share a mature if not old-school base.

I actually find that Creed's Spice and Wood is an answer to Malle's Bois D'Orage.
