Default How often have u gotten a Second Chance Offer,& how do you know it's valid?

I recently received one of these, at my highest bid of $234, but strangely, the auction ended with "Reserve Not Met".

The seller has 200 feedback, 100% +ve and 1 neutral.

He has only sold 1 item in September ,while his last sales have dated back to May this year.

    Should I be suspicious?

    Thanks

the seller may have lowered the reserve but it seems odd they would not do that during the auction

If you received the offer through eBay messages (and not your personal email) it is probably legit.

A seller is allowed to offer to sell to the highest bidder at what they actually bid, if the auction ends without the reserve being met, but the buyer is entitled to refuse.

I personally wouldn't lower my reserve during an auction-- many people bid higher near the end (snipe)-- but I might relist with a lower reserve, or make the second chance offer.

Sometimes the bidder is slow to pay or doesn't answer e-mails so the seller has the opportunity to offer it to someone else. It's weird, on Ebay, when you're the seller, sometimes from the beginning of a sale they offer you that option. I don't know why. You have a list saying, "two of your sold items can be given a second chance offer"...or something like that.
