Default Looking for a GIT with a twist

Guys/Gals, I have asked this question once before, a while ago. I wanted to ask again to see if I got some different answers. I am looking for something in the neighborhood of GIT, but with a woody twist to it. I know I may sound confusing, but something like the old Caswell Massey Greenbriar or maybe like the New Greenbriar, but with more quality. Something like a toned Devin mixed with GIT. Hell, I don't know what I'm looking for. Can you help? Would like to stay under $400. Thank you so much, Brandon

Chez Bond: Imagine a sweeter GIT without the ambergris and devoid of any Coolwater similarities. I have both and find the Bond No. 9 to be more modern and wearable.

Logging out now before the Bond haters arrive with pitchforks...

Thanks guys. I'm looking for something different than the git and cool water smells. I want that smell but with a woodier tone to it

Do a spray of GIT then a spray of Grey Vetiver by Tom Ford. I read about this on another post somewhere on BN, so I can't take credit but it smells great.

    Directly on top of it?

Sure! I do a spray of GIT on my neck, and one on one wrist and kind of pat around. Then one spray of GV on my neck. I'm sure there are many ways of doing it, though! I find they blend really well.

GIT + MI 1:1, sprayed into each other before the alcohol dries.

Perhaps not woody as requested but it makes the best of both really stand out, almost eliminates the ambergris aroma, and it lasts very well.

One could do GIT + an overlay of Bois du Portugal but to my nose, it detracts a bit from the best of either.

You could try Creed Tabarome Millesime or MPG Garrigue . . . see if either push the right buttons.

Maybe this new one Spice & Wood is what you're after? There's a thread nearby with people's comments.

Have you ever tried Creed Green Valley?

It may not be exactly what you are looking for but, I think it adds a wonderful twist to GIT and could possibly hold your interest.

Kind of agree here. I think this one is very underrated. Nice for work. Classy.

I dont understand why some of you consider getting rid of the ambergris a positive thing that could give the fragrance itself a "twist".. perhaps a bad twist.

Might want to give Kiton Men (1996) a try. Similar to GIT with cedar.

Fragrance is subjective so there is no better or worse but rather what an individual prefers. Ambergris doesn't make everything better otherwise every fragrance would use it if it did.

Floris JF is a woodier version of GIT, without the ambergris. I think this is exactly what you're looking for.

This sounds very interesting. Never thought of combining the two. Gonna try this tomorrow.

    +1 MPG Garrigue

A few other scents that I find at least somewhat similar in profile that may work... may not. These do not necessarily smell just like GIT:

    L'Artisan Navegar
    Cereus #7
    Xerjoff Uden
    CK Contradiction
    V&R Antidote
    ***For sale:

    Iris Pallida 50ml

    Ungaro I 75ml

    and more!

Look no further. Fresco di Vetiver. Vetiver version of GIT, i.e. woodier and less flowery but with the same green freshness.

Anyone remember what the old Caswell Massy Greenbriar smelled like? Is there anything like that out there?

Yep, but spray lightly - too much & Kiton becomes a monster

You could try GIT over Molecule 02 - works really well.

If you want something that still smells like GIT:

    Boucheron pour Homme Fraicheur (2004)
    Boss Elements

    GIT with aquatic leanings:

    Jacomo de Jacomo Deep Blue
ointments and perfume delight the heart....
