    Default Hermessence Iris Ukiyoe

The ninth fragrance in the Hermessence line, will be released in November - the Scented Salamander gets the scoop, including pictures of the bottle: http://www.mimifroufrou.com/scenteds...ence.html#more

Jean Claude Ellena has already done a handful of iris scents, including Bois d'Iris by The Different Company, Bois Farine by L' Artisan Parfumeur - as well as the Hermessence Paprika Brasil. I'm interested to see how he's going to approach iris differently with this new one.

The last Hermessence that really wowed me was the aforementioned Paprika Brasil. The last few have been nice, but not very full-bottle-worthy. And I just plain hated Vanille Galante.

Thanks Mimi for sharing! I like both bois farine and l'eau d'hiver (which has that iris vibe in the base) as well as I didn't like at all bois d'iris. Looking forward to smell this new one.

I love the name, Mike. Iris with a Japanese motif? Jean-Claude Ellena and iris are a great pairing.

    Ooh! The bottle's purple!

I know this is trite, but those Hermessence bottles are gorgeous all sitting next to each other. The way the color fades in to the bottom of the bottle and then it's echoed with the leather on the cap is pure design porn...

I agree. I personally think the Vanille Galante, in it's white leather sleeve, is the most striking one. Even if I don't like the juice inside.

If I ever win the lottery, I'll buy all the Hermessences just to sit them all next to each other.

Same thing with the L'Artisans. If you've been to Aedes, I just love the way they display them organized by the color of their labels like a pantone strip...

These two consecutive sentences from the Scented Salamander confuse the hell out of me: "The perfumer drew a synthesis of several scents of iris flowers which he cultivates in his garden, looking for their common point. The result is a composition where the main facets are rose, orange blossom, dewy petals and mandarin." ????????

JCE cultivates irises? Interesting. This is definitely one to try.

Oh boy! JCE fan here, and this does sound more than a bit unusual for something called "Iris..."

Bois Farine is an iris scent...???

Loved Vanille Galante, but the Hermessences price point makes me weep a bit.

kärleksparfym, bois farine is for sure an iris scent, pure iris flour indeed with a touch of fennel and woods.

hahaha.... I own it, and I love it. I just never really thought of it as an iris scent, despite that delicious powdery quality.

Octavian's review has me excited; an imaginative Iris soliflore, set in the world of Ikebana art.

I wonder if this is because this iris scent is based on the flower rather than the root that others generally used.

Yes, this is what all of the reviews I have read, allude to.

This is not a normal iris scent, that's for sure. I look forward to smelling it, although the lily facets mentioned in a few reviews has me scared as this is a note that I really do not enjoy.
