Aqcua di Selva
Thread: SOTD: Wednesday 3rd of October
Good morning everyone.
It is a beautiful day today, so I decided on Concentré D'Orange Verte by Hermes.

Paris has still not wound back down to normal after the ridiculous whirlwind of Fashion Week. It's been strangely warm, then surprisingly freezing, then wet and rainy. I've come to a kind of decision recently, based on some of the cathartic internal probing of the mind that some of us did together on the collective frustration dumpbox thread
Some things come clear when you go home. When I flew into CDG/Roissy, my head was resting on the cold open window as the plane flew very low over the City of Versailles. Seeing it from above, something I had never taken the time to notice, there's a incredible unexplored dimension that, I imagine, would escape most visitors, and even inhabitants of this lovely city. The town, The Royal Park and The Chateau itself all have in common the most impeccable footprint: Obviously well thought out. Being, though, the product of centuries of alterations, there is an oddness to all three: None are perfect in the expected ways, yet all are clearly lain out and constructed in such a way that there is sense to be found in them when viewed from a above. It reminded me that all of the dramas, and the traffic jams, late arrivals, moods, strange and unexpected emotions, everything that makes up every day will forcibly make the same kind of sense, if only we might imagine that we view it, too, from above. In honour of this, today, yesterday, and for the past ten days, I have been wearing simultaneously three layers of
Bal a Versailles
I begin the day with copious amounts of the dusty, nostalgic rose-incense-musk of the vintage Eau de Cologne: A lovely concentration that, though quite dark, is somehow uplifting. Like Versailles itself, BAV in this strength remains what it is meant to be: An EdC, except that time had made it's changes, leaving behind something of beauty that is slightly off, but in a way that is not remotely forced or overworked. Once I am dressed, wrists and neck get sprayed with the lush and comforting depth of gloom that is the Parfum de Toilette: Yet again, this is precisely what it is conceived to be, a kind of parfum, with amazing tenacity, that will bring an intoxicating emotional abstraction made of a bizarre symbiosis of filth and gourmandise. At once, one is repelled, and attracted. I think the fact that some of the ads from Jean Desprez that appeared in the late 70's contained mirrors is ironic, though obviously referencing a love of symmetry and eternal reflection that is inherently French, this dual quality of love/hate, the very DNA of BaV, makes perfect sense to me now. I used to feel as though people, from the outside looking in, felt attraction or revulsion, both in the extreme. Now, it seems, people feel both, and are flummoxed by the mix. Finally, the August Parfum. Usually, I save this for the evening, though, since this is Paris, I have been dabbing it on at least three to five times a day: One fingerprint of it will bump and renew the mix to heights I think may have been imagined by Jean Desprez when BaV was created. Like Versailles, yet again, this vision has altered with time. I am in love with the idea of walking about in a cloud of confusion. It suits me.
Have a Beautiful Day, everyone. I'm on my way to Vivienne Westwood. If she or Andreas happen to be around today, I wonder if they'll notice how stinky I am? BaV, to me seems perfect for both of them.

"I love fragrances because they provide a sheer endless variety: there is a scent for every occasion, mood or feeling. Standing before my collection in the morning matching a perfume to my needs is one of the most enjoyable things in my day". I don't want to miss that

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."
