Nothing to my nose
Thread: 1 Million vs. John Varvatos
Thoughts? Many people consider them similar, myself included, to a degree.
I find 1 Million way more floral, stronger, more projecting. Its a bit woodier as well...but has a synthetic white noise in the back of all that.
John Varvatos is boozy, spicey, and sweeter in the vanillic sense
Their similarity? The cherry-ish/leather accord
Nothing to my nose
I consider 1 Million as John Varvatos Extreme Intense.
1 million is more dense. John Varvatos is more "transparent".
1 million is more powdery than JV.
1 million is sweeter than JV.
1 million is by Paco Rabbane and JV is by John Varvatos.
For me those are the differences.
My blog: http://scentedpassion.blogspot.com/
I've tried and bought both but ended up exchanging 1 Million for something else, because I realized that John Varvatos is like its big brother -- not too sweet, classier, and manly. I'm 28 and figured that I'm too old for 1 Million.
The only similarity to me is that neither are worth owning IMO.

John Varvatos has a similar smell to Burberry London to me
1 Million carries some notes similar to Ungaro Apparition Intense
but I don't see the connection between the 2.
Your nostrils, which will dilate immesurably in unspeakable contentment, in motionless ecstasy, will ask nothing better for space, for they will be full of fragrance, as if perfumes and incense; for they will be glutted with complete happiness, like angels who dwell in the peace and magnificence of pleasent heaven.

john varvatos is definetly soemthing im considering making my next purchase. Either John Varvatos or Chanel Allure Homme
To me it's just a wilder smelling John Varvatos. I'm not a big fan of either though. I used to like Varvatos years ago however.
I now own both, and I see what the OP meant, in that they share a similar sweetness. Both also have a good dose of vanilla and have some leather (JV more than 1M). I'm wearing one on each hand now, and JV is has an almost gritty texture when first sprayed because of the spices, where 1M is smoother. 1M is sweeter and more feminine, where JM is definitely a masculine smell. Because I have worn 1M more it is higher on my list that JV. That may change this winter.
The Lyor Cohen of Dior Homme, that's Dior Homme, not Dior homey
For me John Varvatos is not worth owning.
If you're a granda or have silver hair, then maybe John Varvatos is not for you.
But, if you're a young professional, suit and tie, romantic kinda guy, then John Varvatos would definitely be a great fragrance for you. Its combination of dark cherry, leather, and vanilla accords is very unique. For me, it's like a modern version of Chanel Allure Homme.
I'm sorry but I don't find much similarity between the two either. JV is vanilla/date sweetness, 1M is berry sweetness especially raspberry. 1M is always extremely powerful, I would never wear more than 2 sprays. I could still smell it after 36 hours and numerous washes.
I want to resurrect this thread because I am looking for something similar to John Varvatos but with bit more longevity.
I love Varvatos--especially the leather accord. Is the leather note in 1 million significant enough to offset the sweetness?
(Quote some comedian I heard a while back)
Seriously though, I too love the leather accord in john varvatos , but the date is too much. I hope you get some good responses

Couldn't throw away the scent strip fast enough when I tried those two.
2. Encre Noire
3. Tobacco Vanille
1 Million and John Varvatos Original are absolutely no where close to the same. The only thing that has a similar smell to 1 Million for me is the original Joop. Both are crazy potent, but the dry down of 1 Million is a lot more manageable than Joop. The first time I smelled 1 Million, I was instantly like "no way!" but within a few minutes after the opening blast to settles down, it is a really nice scent.
1 Million for me!!!
I find Varvatos a really quality scent, just not to my tastes. 1 million I had to wash off within 10 minutes.
I prefer 1 Million by PR
I liked Varvatos a while back...not as big of a fan of it now. 1 Million never really won me over, but my wife liked, so I bought it.
They're semi-similar, but pretty different. 1 Million is younger, and a whole lot louder obviously - but perfect for many clubbers.
PS - I have a 100ml bottle of 1 Million for sale/trade that's about 95% full. Still have the original box too. PM if that interests you
