Default Why there is no parfume for man?

I really don't know why women have the real parfumes and we don't. We have only colognes.

There are plenty of eaux de parfum and eaux de toilette for men -- they just call it cologne, no matter what the concentration, so the manly men won't be scared away into the bushes by girly "perfume"!

I don't know of many masculine pure parfums, though. I have no idea why!
This scent is great, but ... MORE KITTENS!

yeah it's just a name thing, and AFAIK it's only the case in USA.
as a sidenote, all fragrances of all sexes are called parfüm in turkey.

pure parfums are offered and purchased rarely even for women.
on the other hand oriental/arabic companies offer almost only parfum concentration for men and women alike.

Semantics! I don't know why we say "cologne" for men, and "perfume" for women, but I hope it changes eventually. Because, frankly, it really doesn't make any sense.

I'm not sure you're qualified to even ask the question, particularly when you presume to know the answer.

I could go on, but I believe the point has been made.

And seriously, maybe if you stay a while you'll give up on the 'for man, for woman' thing too.

Well, if we leave the niche market out, you're sort of right. Most men Eau de Parfums are limited editions. I've even told by a SA in Canada that they don't import anything that's an EdP for men, save for Niche which are mostly labeled Unisex anyway.

CanwllCorfe is on the right track. I think deejay2 is unknowning misusing the word.

deejay2: "cologne" has two meanings. To the general public, cologne often is used to identify a fragrance for men, as opposed to perfume for women. The actual definition of cologne, used here on Basenotes and by others in-the-know, is the concentration of the fragrance. Eau de cologne is the weakest, followed by eau de tolette, eau de parfum, and finally parfum as the strongest.

If mens fragrances is what you seek, Basenotes it the place. Be sure to check out the Fragrance Directory where you can find thousands of mens fragrances and reviews from Basenotes members. Also, the Basenotes Awards is a good resource to see what's popular.

Lurk around and you'll learn a lot. Welcome to Basenotes!

Amongst scents marketed to men there Eau de Cologne, Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum but precious few that are given the title Parfum (or Extrait or Profumo). The number available seems to thin out the higher the concentration . . .

The ones that spring to mind are Terre d'Hermes, already mentioned, and Villoresi Uomo Profumo (which I strongly recommend to anyone who enjoys Uomo).

Of course there are plenty of Perfume strength scents (i.e. designated 'Parfum' or 'Extrait') marketed to women OR not given any specific 'marketing gender' that men can wear . . .

So, not a problem really from where I'm sitting
