Default Proper Way of Applying Cologne...

Whats the proper way of applying cologne? I usually just apply a spray to my wrists, my neck area and to the back area of my ears.

I believe a useful tip is to apply closer to the elbows versus the wrists, since frequent handwashing will then dissolve away the fragrance. Also, the extra body hair could help hold the fragrance longer as well.

chelseafan, (I'm a Manc City fan myself....)

Your method of application is just fine. I spray my wrist, and rub it against my other wrist. Then the opposite side of my elbow (where the vein is) and rub both of those together, and then my neck, and rub my wrist against my neck. Sometimes I'll spray my chest if I want the cologne a bit stronger. I usually do 4 sprays if I'm going out, 6 sprays max anything else.

Enough with the rubbing - you're bruising the perfume.

    PERFUME
Perfume, also referred to as perfume extract, enjoys long-lasting hold. It is the most powerful and purest type of perfume.
A delicate trace of perfume on the skin is enough: on the neck, inside the wrists, décolleté and even behind the knees. These pulse points allow the fragrance to open further.

    EAU DE PARFUM
Eau de parfum has a high perfume content and comes in two forms: bottle or spray.
From a bottle, dab the fragrance onto the skin. Or spray the fragrance into the air and walk into it.

    EAU DE TOILETTE
Eau de toilette is lighter and can be used more generously than an eau de parfum.
It is generally used in the morning: spray the eau de toilette around you and lightly spritz it into your hair for lasting hold.

    Where and How to Apply
    1. The tops of your forearms - and skip your wrists.
    2. On either side of your neck.
    3. A shot inside your T-shirt and down your back.

"An eau de toilette or eau de parfum should be applied all over the body with a little scent applied to the wrists, the inside of the elbow, and the hollow of the collar-bone. Once you have applied it use the body cream or lotion to 'lock' the fragrance in place. Always use the cream last as the alcohol in the fragrance will damage it and it will not be so effective."

The reason that we refer to the place where you should apply your perfume as "pulse points", is because prior the advent of alcohol, when perfumes were pure oils, we relied on our body heat to amplify the strength of the perfume. The pulse points are where your heart pulse is closest to the skin, and therefore the warmest. The sides of your neck, your wrists, and believe it or not, behind your knees!

I feel the way you apply your choice scent varies fragrance to fragrance. Not just how much to apply, but where to apply.

If you have chest hair as I do, consider spraying it there...it holds the scent much longer than bare skin in that area. Otherwise, apply to the conventional "pulse points."
