Default Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin: any other fans out there?

Though there are a good number of positive reviews of Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin on BN, this doesn't seem to be a scent that's frequently discussed here in the forum. It rarely seems to be on anyone's lists of favorites or anything. I'm wondering if it's the anise note that is a turn off, or if some guys think it's too feminine smelling?

I think this is an incredible fragrance. It has one of the most beautiful drydowns I've ever smelled, in any fragrance. Anyone else feel as strongly about this one as I do?

I've tried all the "masculine" licorice/anise dominant frags (and also Anice by Etro), and the one I like best is the Fraicheur version of this one. I haven't sampled the original version recently, so perhaps I would be able to appreciate it more than when I first sampled it.

Yep, fine frag! (Greek Uozo with a lot of water)
I like it, but I absolutely love the ladies´ version!

Lempicka is my favourite of the anice/licorice sents.
I've also got other anice ones like Mat: Very Male, Armani Remix, Benetton Cumbia Colors and Etro Anise, and I never bought Armani Code because it seemed to me to lie somewhere between Lempicka and Mat: Very Male.

However, I don't think Lempicka projects as much as many other orientals do.

Me too. Just purchased this recently and feel it stays "fresh" throughout the life of it as opposed to the original which gets a bit heavy on the drydown (on my skin anyway).

I think this is a great fragrance - a unique twist of a fragrance with great sillage and long lasting

I love anise! So count me in as a fan. On my skin Lempicka au Masculin smells like the designer version of Histoires de Parfums 1725 which is one of my absolute favorites. If I don't already have the HdP, I'd have probably got a bottle by now.

I'm a big fan of the this one! In fact, I think it will always be amongst the fragrances with which I've enjoyed wearing the most (and one that people always seemed to enjoy smelling on me). I think that I got too use to it and had to take a break from it, but I still remember it quite fondly. On me, the sillage and longevity were superb (plenty of sillage for 6hrs with a total longevity of ~12hrs). Highly recommended if you can stomach sweet scents.

Personally I am wondered that this scent is popular in general (not on this site) because anise/licorice is a turnoff for most people.

Interesting. If this is not a sweeping generalization, could you kindly direct me to the study in support of the statement?

I love it and I'm not even an anise fan! I find it addictive especially in the drydown. It's an interesting creation of contrasting bitter and sweet notes. I'm looking forward to trying the new version.
Needless to say the bottle and the presentation is absolutely one of the most beautiful ones for any fragrance.

Sorry no study here, just an observation from the recent past where someone brought licorice/anise candy for the group where only 2 people out of 13 wanted to try it because the others said they hated anise.

I've recently become a fan after years of dismissing it due to the anise topnote. Nowadays, I don't mind the anise at all.

I recently acquired this, and am still getting acclimated to it. I really enjoy the anise but as the day progresses, it evolves into what another member had brilliantly termed a really rich creme brulee scent which I'm still getting acquainted with. I will say this: I have never failed to garner compliments whenever I wear this fragrance.

I'm not really a big fan of feminine male fragrances, but I like this one. Its anise note is not offensive at all to my nose, and its dry down is just yummy; my gf loves it. Definitely a great cold weather scent.

I think Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin is a fine fragrance!

In fact, it's one of the only sweet scents that I can tolerate, and in my opinion it's a decent substitute for the now-dwindling supply of Yohji Homme left on Earth!

I hate licorice, the taste, the smell...but I love this fragrance. It does something right & blends everything together very well so my nose isn't dominated by anise. I usually don't wear this one out, this one is strictly for my lady friend.

MY number one fragrance ever. Next to GIT it is my absolute favorite. This is a basenotes fav also , it was
2000's frag of the year. I call it the Giant killer. IVe had ladies go crazy after this one.

Love the licorice/anise opening. But my favorite has to be the praline/tobacco/vanilla drydown.

Lasts for minimum 8 hrs. The best gourmand out there.

I'd disagree with you, except that it transpired my wife dislikes anise scents (she won't let me wear the Etro one around her) and I've always disliked anice liqueurs (Anice, Pernod, Sambuca etc).

I don't find it at all feminine. I think it borders the unisex line, and leans slightly towards masculine. The problem with vanilla fragrances, is although quite versatile, it's such a commonly used note.. found in many women's frags. The vanilla in LL is rather creamy, similar to the vanilla in Arpege pH <-- A fragrance I think of as unisex, I think LL is quite the similar construction.

Default Re: Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin: any other fans out there?

LL is one of those frags that I think smells masculine on a guy and would smell feminine on a woman. I think how this scent will come across to others depends on who's wearing it, whether it be male or female. I don't say that about a lot of fragrances.

I do think it is a bit feminine smelling, especially when you compare it to stuff like Quorum, e.g.. For that reason, as well as the intense anisette blast, I find it a challenging fragrance to wear, and it's one of the reasons I love it. I love every second of its evolution (all 12+ hrs. of it), and I feel great whenever I wear it. This frag is awesome.

This is a five star frag in my book. I wore it a bit too much and soon tired of it, but this thread has made me think it's time to revisit this baby.

I tried it years ago, but found it too sillage heavy and sweet. Last week, I saw a large bottle of it at Marshalls for $29 so I grabbed one-- and it's been one of this years nice surprises. I like it much more than I did years ago. It can be rather strong though still-- I wore it the other night to work having applied some a few hours before, then another shot just before work-- I got there and felt it was too strong, so I took a warm towel and washed it off, lol. I could still smell it anyway.

On me personally-- I get the best compliments from women on scents with anise notes, so I tend to favor frags like Rive Gauche Pour Homme, L'Occitane Eau du Badian, Versace Black Jeans, Mat; Very Male, etc. This is the sweetest scent I own which also has a strong anise note, so it's amazing in the Winter. Nice bottle too.

The anise is interesting, and I like the frag overall, but it seems underpowered to me, even with liberal application. Maybe I am somewhat anosmic to it?? Or maybe my mini-bottle is defective??

I love this juice too. Great longevity. This may be a noob question but, Is there a difference in the scent of black licorice vs Pernod? Just curious. Thanks Rex

As a total newbie with a pile of samples, I must admit that this was the first one to really catch my heart. Perhaps I'm the sort of fellow who was looking for something unconventional in the first place, but none the less I found it to be something I really felt OK going with, despite the fact of knowing very little about frag.

Simply for that it's likely to remain one of my favorites.
