Thread: cedar sharpness

    Default cedar sharpness

Hey all--I notice that the cedar in fragrances like Terre D'Hermes, CdG Vettiveru and even Cade aftershave splash (sadly discontinued) all seem to have some edge that seems sharper and cleaner than Virginia or Atlas Cedar oil or even aromatics like cedryl acetate...

Can anyone tell me what this is? What creates that sharpness? Or am I missing the obvious?

    Thanks for any input.

Cedarwood is usually pungent sharp and strong, it is my favorite wood in a fragrance.

You may be smelling other woody herbs rather than cedar. I don't think Cade contains cedar (juniper berry, cardamom, and rosemary I believe), and whatever TdH contains, I am going to guess it's not real cedar at all. Aldehyde C8 perhaps on top of some aromachemical accord?
