Default Collectors: What's the Crown Jewel of Your Collection?

For serious collectors: What is that one item -- that crown jewel of your collection?

For me, right now, it's my Clive Christian Travel Set. Those beautiful bottles sit on a shelf away from the others, in their beautiful satin-lined box ... I take them out from time to time and just smell the gold caps and admire their beauty. In my case, they literally are crown jewels (each has a little crown lol).

This may or may not be your favorite fragrance per se. This is more about your rare finds, indulgences, limited editions etc. I wanna know what you covet.

My Crown Jewel didn't come yet. I've bought Encre Noir by Lalique. After reading so many good opinions on Basenotes, looks like it's gonna be my Crown Jewel.
Temporary, My Crown Jewel goes to....................... Terre D'Hermes
Couple monts ago, I've bought color magazine (GQ), and there was tester inside. Next day I opened it and touched my wrist. After couple minutes I got crazy... It was late night, so I bought another magazin in Tesco (24hr open) to get another tester. Next day I've bought my 100ml Terre D'Hermes... Sorry, for such a long story...

Hmm. I found a small bottle of the old Oleg Cassini for Men from the '70s, which is great to have. I also really prize my bottles of Black Tourmaline. Mazzolari Mazolarri, and Querelle. I'm also really pleased I have bottles of most of the best pre-reformulated MPGs, and discontinued scents like Tumulte and Fendi Uomo. For me, it's not like I have one uber-expensive scent that's the crown jewel, there are several I prize for different reasons.

Yeah, I nearly bought the Clive Christian travel set, too.

Millesime Imperial wins in my collection; the gold bottle, bottle design, and the price. I wear it often too.

My secret Crown Jewel (overpriced guilty pleasure) is probably a small decant of Bois d'Encens (Armani Prive).

Hmmm...I think right now, it would be my vintage bottle of Kouros Eau de Sport (1986, discontinued)-- thanks Morrisson74!

I still have to get around to reviewing it. It's a wonderfully subtle, slightly sporty digression of the mighty Kouros. I think it's one of those scents that I thought I'd never get a chance to own. When I look at my drobe as a collection, this one is probably what I'd consider the crown jewel.

There are some other scents that are discontinued and now fetching high prices that I'm glad I own. Some of these would be Aramis Surface, Escada Casual Friday, and Helmut Lang Cuiron.

    I agree with this philosophy

M7 - the old formulation in the dark bottle.

I find it has a smokier nuance(just awesome) than the newer formulation.
I adore this fragrance and finding an older M7 is becoming harder to find.
So I would consider it the crown jewel in my collection but reserve it for special occasions
or just when I am just jones-ing for the vintage M7

In my tiny collection, I'd say it's a toss up of givenchy pi (it's a pretty damn nice bottle!) and Pure Malt. Pure Malt is just pleasing to look at, at least to me

For me it's more brands, Tom Ford, Gurlain & Amouage. In particular most of the Private Blend, Jicky & Shalimar & Opus III.

What a hard question. There are so many that might qualify depending on the phrasing of the question. Patou Pour Homme and PPH Prive for example, along with Jean Desprez Versailles Pour Homme maybe. Maybe the general range of discontinued fragrances I have, which I always like realizing I'm wearing when someone compliments what I've got on and I can say it's not made anymore. Maybe the large collection itself is the jewel because that gives me the highly pleasurable freedom to pick anything anytime.

But those qualifications aside, I'd say that L'Artisan Parfumeur's Voleur de Roses and Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier's Route du Vetiver have the velvet setting of the collection's jewels.

One or two vintage Guerlains would certainly qualify - one day I hope to get hold of some vintage L'Heure Bleue & Apres l'Ondee, so the the throne is 'pretty vacant' right now, to quote Sid.

Patou Pour Homme & Amouage Homage are Crown Jewels - both transporting. I would also add Balsamico della Mecca, from D. Dubrana, my latest find.

Its hard to say, but I have a soft spot for 3 of my Guerlains, generally for their historical significance.

First a 250ml vintage extrait of Vol de Nuit from the very year it was launched (1933).
Second, an 80ml bottle of vintage Shalimar extrait, housed in a bottle that was never intended for Shalimar. An anomaly of sorts.
And third, an 80ml flacon of vintage Djedi extrait rarely ever seen in the 'quadrilobe' presentation.

I'm not really a collector, I only buy fragrances I wear often, but from within that limitation, I tend towards limited edition bottles/flacons, that look way cooler than stock:

Probably between 2 limited edition eau de cologne flacons:

Acqua Di Parma Colonia 180ml CHROME flacon in BLACK box

R & G Jean Marie Farina Extra Vieille 200ml RED GLASS

Ones I am actually looking for are:
    500ml C&S No.88 flacon with "all over 8888888888888 pattern*
the Prestige bottle for Eau Sauvage (a totally chrome Eau Sauvage)
Pm if looking to sell either.
