    Mistakes:

I agree 100 percent. Basenotes is a great educational tool for fumeheads like me. I didnt know the fragrance world was so complex. I certainly have learned a lot and found a lot of frags. I love (F. Malle are you reading this?) And my wallet never knew what hit it

Many triumphs and disasters, too many to list. I will say that M Micallef Avant Garde was a total surprise, yet none of you knuckle draggers ever mention it cause you're too busy licking the glass of your over-hyped Musc Ravaguer bottles.

Floris White Roses (blech! a blind buy, but I'm only out 20 bucks.)
Nanette Lapore Shanghai Butterfly (TJ Maxx blind buy that smelled just like urine/kitty litter) The only frag I have thrown in the trash after one whiff.

    Triumphs:

Trading stuff I wasn't crazy about for large bottle of YSL L'homme, Kenzo Power, and Guerlain Vetiver. I wear the YSL more than anything else I own.

    Disasters:

Not getting a bottle of Bleu de Chanel.

    Sandalo Inspiritu
    Sous le Vent
    Attrape Coeur
    Cologne du Parfumeur
    1725
    Balsamico della Mecca

These were the standout FBW new experiences for me

No disastrous purchases but a Tom Ford boutique opened here and I'm afraid I found Tobacco Vanille & the rest of the line pretty disastrous.

Triumphs: Actually too many to list them all, but I will consider the jewel of the crown my finding of a 4 oz bottle of vintage Arpege by Lanvin, it probably was made in the 50's and the juice was in perfect condition (read my review on Arpege) although the box and the bottle were in ruins. Also discovered Black Orchid (and its flanker Voile de Fleur) by Tom Ford, One Man Show and vintage Fendi Oumo.
Disasters: Two extremes, the worst perfume of all times: A*men, a nuclear blast to your nostrils. And the blandest, insipid, innocuous, anodyne pair of worthless "diet" perfumes Chrome by Azzaro and L'Eau d'Hell. The thing is that those two are so popular, I reckon that kids graduating from AXE would be atracted to those watered down (aquatic = water, isn't it?) attempts of perfume.

Triumphs for me this year were ones I discovered this year:

Montale Wild Aoud and Red Vetyver
    Amouage Jubilation XXV
    ELd'O Fat Electrician

No real disasters, but a couple that got pushed to the back of my wardrobe as I've discovered things I like more.

    Dunhill Desire Blue
    Tommy Bahama Very Cool
    TOP 5
    1. Montale Wild Aoud
    2. Amouage Jubilation XXV
    3. Montale Red Vetyver
    4. Montale Aoud Lime
    5. Le Labo Vetiver 46

At first I thought this thread was intended to assess new releases, but it seems to have gone in a much different direction - that of personal discoveries. Looking back on my 2010 purchases, I see that I've tended more to buy back-up bottles of my favorites when I found them at great prices than new ones. Back-ups aside, here are some notable ones from 2010:

    Best Blind Buy:
    Givenchy Vetiver

    Best New Fragrances:
    Mazzolari Mazzolari
    Smell Bent Pere Noel Coward

    Best Cheapie Blind Buys:
    Halston 1-12
    Carlo Corinto

Best Samples that will likely result in purchases soon:
    Cartier Declaration
    Serge Lutens Fille en A.
    Serge Lutens Serge Noire

On December 31st 2010, I came across Tom Ford Grey Vetiver. I had never heard of it before. I really like it. The great thing is, so does my wife. I might have to find a bottle in 2011.

I can't think of any disasters.

Eh, it's ok. Wayyyyy overpriced for what amounts to a designer fragrance in disguise.

For $185-$190 retail, it is overpriced. For the $115 I got it for, I'm geeked!

The longevity alone doesn't allow for it to be called a designer in disguise.

Props to you for finding it at that price then. I'd say that if you enjoy it, it's worth it at that price.
