Exclamation TODAY I BOUGHT: Fashion Edition

I can't for the life of me find an old thread in which members posted their new fashion purchases! I really enjoyed looking through it, so I thought I'd start another!

Its miserably hot here in Perth and very humid at the moment. We've already hit 40 degrees last week, and expect a raging summer in the weeks to come. I find it very difficult to shop for summer as I tend to perspire a great deal and hate clothes that are too stuffy.

Today I bought this Country Road shirt, to be worn with dark slim-fit jeans and shoes/thongs (much like the chap in the photo).

EDITED TO ADD: "Thongs" in Aussie terminology refer to flip-flops or jandals, not g-strings!

Oh, that's a fun idea! Do accessories count?

I get to choose a vintage wrist watch for myself as a Christmas gift from my mother this year, so yesterday I went to a small store that specializes in old watches, run by a charming, excentric old German gentleman, very sharp, talkative and opinionated, who cast a brief look at me, asked what I was looking for (small, men's wrist watch for everyday wear, steel), immediately pinpointed what he thought would suit me, judging by my clothes and general style, and was completely right.

So he produced a few 1940's watches, one 30's and one 50's, all with steel cases, Arabic numerals, round, light and relatively uncluttered faces, which was pretty much exactly what I had in mind. We spent almost three-quarters of an hour looking at watches and chatting merrily about different styles, eras, brands and types. On Friday or next week I'm going back to pick up a mid-40's steel case Zenith, cream-coloured dial with a small, subsidiary seconds dial, and have a steel chain bracelet fitted.

    Pictures forthcoming, I hope!

    They do indeed count!

I am very excited to see this watch Pimpnett... I always said if i had silly amounts of money to throw around, I would have a vintage watch collection to rival my fragrance one Look forward to seeing your pics!

So would I! It's an extremely interesting field, as is vintage fountain pens - I have a friend with a huge collection who is constantly tempting me with beautiful pens and inks (while I tempt her with beautiful fragrances, so we're even).

http://alanwatch.homestead.com/ has tons of nice watch porn, I like his taste in watches. Will take photos of the watch as soon as I have it!

I just to work at Christie's (jewellery department, most often) and they'd get the watch collectors in too. Grave, equanimous, serious types, most of them, who'd peer over their half moon glasses at the vintage clockworks and talk to one another in a secret language I never understood. Serious hobbyism, that.
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely products of a deranged imagination.

Untucked looks sloppy... And then with that shirt tucked you'd probably get a lot of blousing (it's not particularly slim around the waist, at least on the model) and that'd like quite sloppy too... I guess I'm just not feeling it. Sorry.

@inscents, this shirt's meant to be worn untucked. It's a casual look, and with those sandals I think it's perfect for a day strolling at the harbour. Some nice shades or a straw trilby would complement the look. As would a Panerai Marina on the wrist. I'd say it's a good purchase, Dimi.

Well, I'm not questioning how it's 'meant' to be worn. I'm just saying that it looks sloppy to me, in fact that's the whole point of the look. That look just doesn't work for or on me particularly well. I guess more power to you if you can pull it off.

Actually its a slimfit cut, which means it tapers at the waist. This model has probably a size 28 waist, hence the flare.
This is a casual look - no-one in their right mind would tuck this in when its over 40 degrees.

I LOVE sunglasses too! My lady recently bought me a pair from Ermenegildo Zegna, a racer with red leather trimmings. I baulked at the price (>US$375) but when I tried them on, they seem to be designed with me in mind - the fit was exquisite! Added a pair as part of wedding gift set for the groom.

    The watch, as promised:

I'll try to get daylight pictures at some point too, there's a narrow gold line around the numerals that only shows up as a dull taupe here, and of course the colours are completely off as well. I like the juxtaposition of the somewhat cool-toned steel case and bracelet with the warm-toned, dark cream with gold accent of the dial, I feel that it makes it very easy to match with almost anything.

It runs beautifully, too. I haven't timed it to the second, but it doesn't loose or gain anything that can be measured in minutes.

Bought a simple merino wool v-neck on sale this Saturday in a lovely, warm shade of dark blue, almost petrol. Snug fit, long-sleeved, has some nice, half invisible little details in a contrasting colour. Very soft, thin and snuggly.

So pretty, and if you ever want to have the dial restored (I happen to like the patina of age), there are a number of quite good restorers out there. (I have a nice little Elgin wristwatch - one of the WWII era pieces from the 1940's that used parts from earlier due to wartime supply issues. It is in the shop being repaired right now, the escapement mechanism may be the culprit. It's not an expensive one but it's a beauty. I do appreciate the craftsmanship that was present even in "cheap" watches from the early-mid 20th century.

Thank you! I have been considering it, but I think I'll leave it - the patina is nice, and I don't want it to look brand new anyway; I would have chosen a different watch if I did. I'm very fond of these plain, comparatively inexpensive early- to mid-century watches too, the design is often fantastic and they are great mechanical watches, as well.

I would love to see photos of the Elgin, by the way!

Nice one, I like the 50's/60's feel of the narrow lapels with black binding!

I bought fabrics and buttons yesterday. One of my favourite fabric shops is going out of business, sadly, and I picked up three cottons for summer dresses - a plain, slightly dirty sky blue, a narrow black and drab stripe, and an off-white with herringbone structure. May have to go back and get more, everything is on sale and they have lovely shirtings.

I will probably make shirtwaist dresses out of all three fabrics, in late 40's cuts with narrow waists, wide, calf-length skirts and marked shoulders.

I recently had two simple silk shift dresses made from two large (v large ) scarves . One is red and the other black - both with feather motifs on them. Simply lovely.
Today I bought another two dresses -
One is a maxi dress in tiger print and the other is another simple shift in black silk with small skull designs everywhere. Got them with a 15% discount too!
