I love carnation. I love it in multi-note frags and as soliflore.

As soliflore (or as the central note): Bellodgia by Caron / Garofano by Lorenzo Villoresi / Carnation by CdG

I adore it in multi-note frags like Derby / Tabac Blond by Caron / En Avion by Caron

CDG Series 2: Red Carnation is the most realistic one I've smelled, more so than Bellodgia, LV Garofano or SMN Garofano IMO.

Red carnation smells like carnation flower or more cloves?

To me it smells more of carnation-- I had fresh picked carnations from my garden to compare with when I got my sample of the CDG from Luckyscent. They were very close.

Even so, I did not buy the perfume because I concluded that it was too intrusive a scent and that I prefer to smell this flower (as a flower) than to wear it.

Just discovered this one .... it is fantastic so I'll smell of it instead of carrying the flower around.
Great by its lonesome but it's tailor made for layering in my opinion.

the CdG's Carnation has the smell of body lotion base. Me no like much this thing. My least fave in the red series.

I love carnation too, but it's a difficult note, I find - none of the carnation-centered fragrances I have tried have done it for me, the closest thing so far is a Roger & Gallet soap, Oeillet Mignardise. The CdG Carnation is rather lifelike, but one-dimensional, as Killer_VaVoom states.

Hermes Equipage has a very nice carnation note, though on some people's skin I understand it can verge on clove, so try before you buy. Some dislike the reformulated version. I find it very nice if perhaps a bit more cheaply done than the vintage.

Another vote for Hermes Equipage, sample before buying as always.

Another vote for Villoresi Garofano. You'll smell like a high school prom when you first put it on and then later, if you start to sweat. you'll smell like a greenhouse. I only wear this about 5X a year, but I do love it.
