i find roadsther share the same vibe, but im n00b, and i will be bashed with 10+ negative quotes.
Is there a fragrance like that?
I really like the general idea of Terre d'Hermes, the grapefruit, the vetiver, the salty earthiness. However, it is just way too strong for me, even with a light application.
Is there a perfume similar to it, but a much lighter, airy version?

Off hand I can only think of Aventure by Galimard
Others disagree, but I find the new Jack Black "JB" drydown to be VERY similar to TdH but lighter.
Yep, I remember trying that one in Neiman Marcus, it definitely has similarities with TdH. Good call with that one!
+1 on the JB. They're not the same, but very similar.
SEEKING BOTTLES OF:
Aramis New West (preferably old bottle)
Patrick by Fragrances of Ireland
Gloria by Cacharel
PM me if you have bottles that you're willing to sell or trade!
Oh, TdH is not that heavy, unless it is the iso e super that is going to work on you
EDIT!!!! I just remembered this:
St. James of London - Post-Shave Cologne Soothing Cedarwood & Clarysage
It really smells like a lighter Tdh, but for an aftershave it lasts several hours! And for $12.00, you can't go wrong!
Give Cereus No. 5 a try. It smells quite close to Terre d'Hermes, but to me, more easy to wear. Its niche, so it is gonna be harder to find a sample, but thats the only scent that comes close ( as far as being "lighter"). Good luck.
Seeking: Bottles/decants : of Alain Delon Iquitos, Feeling Man, Gucci pour Homme, Essence of John Galliano, Opium pour Homme, Oxford & Cambridge, Azzaro pour Homme (vintage), Concentré D'Orange Verte...etc.
Seeking decant/sample of Jil Sander Feeling Man, Comme des Garcons 2 Man, Giorgio VIP, ....etc. I have samples to swap.
Please PM me !
Spray TdH far away from skin, to get the 'light' version of it.
Great works are performed, not by strength, but by perseverance.
You could also try spraying TdH lower on your body, like the small of your back or inside of your thighs, so it disperses a little.
Salvatore Ferragamo F Black by Olivier Polge apparently has a similar drydown to Td'H according to the reviews in the directory. I own F Black and quite like it.
I don't find F Black to be anything like TdH, personally.
Davidoff Adventure is a bit similar in its orange + spice + vetiver and cedar combo. L'Anarchiste is also orange + spice + vetiver and cedar and musks, and I quite prefer it to TdH, even though it is not entirely similar in smell.
I too was looking for an alternative to TdH and heard that Gianni Campagna was very close to TdH, and that is generally true, although it isn't much lighter but is somehow thinner, and is even more synthetic, so I don't think you'd like it. Still, it may be worth a sniff - perhaps the chemicals in it that bother me wouldn't bother you.
You may want to explore the other fragrances from J.C.Ellena, TdH's creator. It is often said that he has similar themes running through his creations...
If you like TdH, I would start with Bigarade Concentree, Un Jardin sur le Nil, and Voyage.
First of all, you can try diluting it with vodka or perfumer's alcohol. This is what I have to do with One Man Show. Also, you might like Zino, though it's certainly not exactly the same. It does have that sour orange thing going on, and the base can be described as "earthy" (though not salty).

Also, if you are looking for grapefruit and vetiver and salt do check out Sel de Vetiver by the Different Company.
A more gourmand take on the idea of grapefruit + pepper + vetiver (and a good dose of sandalwood and some florals and vanilla) is Givenchy Play, a really great casual, every day kind of fragrance. It doesn't really have much of a saltiness, however.
Good suggestions above for a lighter application of TDH, or the deodorant, if you want an exact match. As for a different scent that is like TDH, you can try Hermes' Eau de Merveilles. It has a similar citrus/earth/salt thing going on. It is in the same family as TDH, only lighter and airier. I found the edp version especially close.

hypnose homme COLOGNE by lancome has exactly the same vibe , a little bit more citrusy
my current top five (always in transition)
Dior Eau Noire
HdP 1725 Casanova
eau de gloire parfum d'empire
Dia man Amouage
comme des garçons man 2
Try the "Un jardin.." line. Are lighter but in the same style
LOL. Totally forgot about Voyage. It is quite similar! Another Jean-Claude ISO bomb! It is not bad though. TdH is just better.
I have to agree with Calero. I am a big fan of Td'H and am always looking for similar dry, earthy wood frags. A week or two ago I came across a bottle of Cedarwood and Clarysage aftershave cologne by St James of London at my local Marshalls. The packaging looked interesting and it wasn't much of a risk at $7.99. It is without a doubt the closest thing I have ever smelled to Td'H. Even the notes and their description on the packaging is quite similar to the Hermes;
"Complete your shave with the soothing mineral notes of Spicy Pepper, sweetened with Bay Rose, Geranium and Patchouli wrapped around Atlas Cedar to enhance the earthy notes."
However, it is an after-shave and has much less power and longevity than Td'H. Personally I love this cologne and have been using it daily (sometimes several times a day) since I picked it up a few weeks ago. I agree that even though I love Td'H, it can be a little overwhelming the first hour or so. This one goes on smooth and fresh, has a nice presence but is never overwhelming. You can get a 50 ml bottle for 12 bucks at Beautyhabit.com. I highly recommend it. you won't be disappointed (especially at that price!).
A very expensive option is Montale Red Vetyver. Memory tells me it was much lighter.
Yeah Voyage d' Hermes is what you want. Also try Eau de Pamplemousse Rose by Hermes.
"Human interaction can be hell. Or it can be a great spiritual practice."

how funny, i was just smelling the on-card drydown of Bvlgari Man and was amazed at how much it smells like a Td'H lite
give it a try
I bought Bond no.9 Brooklyn because it's a very light grapefruit and wood, somewhat similar to TdH. More piney than cedary, but still has a similar but much lighter vibe.
Ah yes, Brooklyn is indeed a good recommendation. It has that kind of dry, parched earth effect thanks to the grapefruit, dusty cedar, and cardamom. One of Bond's best, imo.
ointments and perfume delight the heart....
The Beat for men by Burberry imo is a younger and lighter scent that has similar notes like pepper and citruses and is very wearable/all occasion scent, unlike Terre d' Hermes.

F Pour Homme by Salvatore Ferragamo is similar to it. Its not as earthy, but there are similarities in the top and basenotes.
Red vetiver. Its amazing, I have tried terre d'hermes from a sample and found it was also too harsh. Red vetiver is so much better. Completely different beginning but dry down is similar, much lighter. Two sprays on chest and I can smell it 10 hours later. I highly recommend it
1. Montale Wild Aoud
2. Amouage Jubilation XXV
3. Montale Red Vetyver
4. Montale Aoud Lime
5. Le Labo Vetiver 46
Creativity is more than just being different. Anybody can plan weird; that's easy. What's hard is to be as simple as Bach. Making the simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity.
VOYAGE DE HERMES to me is Terre Light Sport.
On me Terre Felt Heavy and Floral.
Voyage is like Terre De Hermes Sport.
I like it.
Guerlain Homme L'eau...fits the bill.
I have also been looking for an almost identical light version of Terre d'Hermes with out the sharpness.
I did try Bulgari Man and it was nice but did find it the same as Terre d'Hermes.
I wanted to try Cereus No. 5 but I believe they stopped making it...it is not shown on their website or on
Barneys New York website.
Any other suggestions or ideas.

Remember that while it is perfectly acceptable to criticize the content of a post - criticizing the poster is not.
Mean spirited, nasty, snide, sarcastic, hateful, and rude individuals on Basenotes don't warrant or deserve other individuals' acknowledgement or respect.
Tzora by Anat Fritz.
Also, Terre has apparently been reformulated (made weaker), so if you haven't smelled a recent bottle, do that.
Trying to find a lighter TdH is going to be difficult... Even the new TdH Eau Tres Fraiche is not a lighter version of TdH - in the heat I think it's actually stronger.
Ermenegildo Zegna: Haitian Vetiver / Italian Bergamot
Roja Dove: Amber Aoud Crystal Parfum / Danger Pour Homme Parfum / Fetish Pour Homme Parfum /
Creation-E Pour Homme Parfum / Scandal Pour Homme EdP
Hermess: Bel Ami / Bel Ami Vetiver // Bond No.9: Andy Warhol / NY Amber / NY Oud
Armani Privé: Myrrhe Imperiale / Oud Royal / Rose D'Arabie
Christian Dior La Collection Privée: Ambre Nuit / Oud Ispahan / Bois d'Argent / Leather Oud
Creed: Windsor / Royal Oud / Green Irish Tweed / Jardin d'Amalfi / Pure White Cologne
Puredistance: M / Black // House of Matriarch: Blackbird / SexMagic
Mancera // Acqua di Parma // Atelier Cologne // Huitième Art
Comme des Garcons // Amouage // Profumum Roma // Jovoy Paris // Lubin // D.S. & Durga
I would suggest Cartier Declaration Essence. Similar style and indeed not as heavy as terre.
Try In Black by BYBLOS or you can try Citrus and Wood by Yardley which to me is more synthetic than Terre d'Hermes.
First of all I really wonder what is so strong about Terre d'Hermes being lightly applied after 20 mins. Not that much imo, espeically not with current version.
Guerlain Homme L'Eau +1 (this is cleaner and lighter but also mainly for warm weather only!) Excellent stuff!
- Terre d'Hermes ETF (imo this does not have to be applied generously) of which projection and lonegvity are above average especially for a citrus scent. The smell is light!
- Declaration L'Eau: This has some similarities but is more based on a lighter (grapefruit laden) version of the original Declaration with way less cumin/cardamom. Worth trying anyway as it is very good stuff imo.

What about Vetiver Tonka ?
Seconding especially Citrus&Wood
If you like the dry down of TdH, you could give David Beckham Homme a try. These 2 are virtually identical, when you compare TdH's drydown to it. However, the opening of TdH, which evokes a stronger smell of ISO E, and pepper, is not present in David Beckham Homme.
My Ultimate Top 5:
Paul Smith Man (2009)
Burberry London (2006)
Prada Amber pour Homme (2006)
Arpege pour Homme (2005)
Terre d'Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche?
Some good options, I am going to try a few of them.
