    Default Insense by Givenchy

    Hi!
I recently made a blind buy with Insense by Givenchy. When I received it I got this bottle.

I bought it because the reviews were good, and I really fancied a floral fragrance for men.
I didn´t like very much Insense. It smells like my Boots body cream I would say, I know its harsh... but that is what it reminds me of... I want to know your opinion on this fragrance. Do you think its any good??
    Thanks!

This seems to be new bottle (non les Mythiques) Givenchy frags come in now. I have smelt this version of Insense and it is not any different from the one in the original bottle which i own. Insense is a very nice-smelling and very well blended floral, IMO. However, whether you would like it better after your initial impression is totally up to you.

There was another recent thread on insense. I like it a lot, it is floral but strong and intense, very masculine. Perhaps you were thinking about more traditional woody roses, or may be rich smooth things like Amouage Gold men.

I've never tried Boots body cream, but if it smells like Insense, I definitely have to try it if I ever go to the UK.

It took me two years to come to like it - but I still don't consider it one of my real favourites.
Perhaps it will grow on you with time.

The only ultra floral men's scent that I really liked from first sniff was Trumper's Fougena. Unfortunately, my wife doesn't think much of it.

I'd probably just as soon wear something marketed to women than this.

Givenchy's best fragrance, imo. Probably not something I would wear everyday, though.

Can anyone verify the smell of insense somehow resembles Dior eau sauvage extreme?

Bought a vintage sealed bottle of this. Not cheap, but not as bad as the price for other vintage fragrances.

Regrading any similarity with Eau Sauvage Extreme, little to no resemblance aside from the citrus opening and even the citrus opening is quite differently interpreted, crafted and conveyed if both fragrances were in a side by side comparison

I agree with Ken, not very similar to Eau sauvage extreme. Insense' is primarily a sharp green floral.

I may be the only one, but Insense reminds me of CdG Odeur 71 (and vice versa). Similar sheer musk vibe.

Don't find any similarities at all with Eau Sauvage Extreme.

    Haven't tried Odeur 71.

I get no similarity at all.

Thanks all for clearing this up.. I guess the opening citrus rush reminded me somehow with eau sauvage extreme.. I'm loving the 5ml Givenchy insense which I have just received, I will consider getting a larger bottle when the price is right.

    Not at all.
Insense is a heavy floral scent for men. ES is citric.

they both share 5 opening notes according to fragrantica lemon lime lavender basil & fruit. When I first smelt insense the similarities hit me right away (I own 50ml ES which I regularly use). But I do agree after a while they both take different directions and as you said floral for insense and citrus wood and fresh spices for ES.

Just got a vintage 1993 30ml bottle for about 25$. Still not sure what to think about it though.. Initial blast of something sharp green and something stuffy and very dated turning into pleasant non-descpitive flowery smell. Smells much better from distance than sniffing the wrist up close. Longevity is really poor on my skin, I barely get 4 hours. Will still try to understand what many well respected reviewer found in this scent to proclaim it a masterpiece.

Insense is very potent. I get a lot of lily-of-the-valley and daffodil. Very reminiscent of springtime. If ever there was a "yellow" fragrance, this is it. It's a masterpiece and unique, but nevertheless for many, unwearable - and thus it was a big flop. I love to smell the bottle, but wearing it is for me difficult. I have the same problem with Egoiste...beautiful, but impractical.

A masterpiece with extreme sillage and projection but is this bottle a re issuing of this frag?

Somewhat off topic, but there have been as many as 15 Insense flankers. But I have only ever seen the original and basic ultramarine, which is odd.
