Thread: Strangest Notes

    Default Strangest Notes

Humans seem to love a great diversity of scents.

I am just wondering what some of the weirdest notes you have seen or smelled are?

The smell itself may be very nice but where the stuff comes from may be weird.

I guess I would have to throw ambergris in the ring as a note of strange origin. Sperm whale intestinal secretion that the whale either vomits or poops out.

Now I am aware that most ambergris these days is synthetic - but I love that origin story.

Or perhaps the note is a strange smelling thing - or just has a weird note name. The upcoming Burberry Sport Ice comes to mind. just what do ice crystals smell like? Uhm, water?

Talking about origin story of essential oils:
    Musk - deer butt
    Civet - civet cat butt
    Castoreum - beaver butt

Edit: Also to add, back in the day, one of the reasons I believe why perfume was created was to cover the natural BO smell of people making them smelling "pleasant". Ironically, in the modern day perfumery, cumin, which gives off a smell of BO, is being used in making perfumes to be used by people to make them (us) smell good.

Not to be confused with "Liquid Ass" that stuff's dangerous

The rubber note in Bulgari Black. I can't think of a time when I want to smell like rubber.

The "cellery" note is for me the strangest note. It is very prominent in Phileas from Nina Ricci, which is why I never liked it.

Aoud is common to fumeheads like most on the BN community, but it is a really, truly STRANGE note to the average nose. Totally foreign.
