I've done my first thanks - I was only messing and it sort of happened by accident - but, hey, have one on me.

Why is the thank feature missing? I used it this morning, but it's gone now.

Update: Just read that you only have 3 thanks you can send a day. I'm sorry but that's not nearly enough, why limit it to 3?

Personally, I think the thanks feature isn't such a great idea.

Many will either forget or not bother using it. Some will also spend their daily ration too soon. However, the main concern is that it'll inadvertently generate a clique or Facebook-like culture, where favouritism will prevail. Although some Basenoters will use this function responsibly, I sense it'll mostly be used for posts that express what others want to hear and not opinions that are constructive or substantial. Not useful at all, IMHO - it feels like being back in the sixth form or high school.

How I love putting my head on the block...

I basically agree with Trebor, and he also made his case excelently.

But then, it doesn't bother me, this feature, especially when I find myself surfing more and more less on these forums every single day. I happen to know some people are probably glad that I may well vanish completely at anytime. And others just don't give a damn.

If I like what someone has to say I usually always let them know, but the thanks button has never been my preferred way of doing it.

It also means more for someone to say 'thanks' in their own unique and special way than for the same person to just click a button...

I might be missing something obvious, but I don't see a "Thank" button anywhere. Not that it matters too much, since I generally post thanks on my own.

"thank" button is a bad idea for forums, at least basenotes doesn't need it.

So is there or isn't there? Grant seems to think there is. But I don't see it either.

I think it's been gone since the hacking of Basenotes.

I prefer the old-fashioned way of typing it out. More satisfying all around.

It sure has and, personally, I hope it doesn't return...

I'm with you on this. I haven't missed it, but let people have it, if it makes their day.

Just for the sake of these posts - the 'thanks' function is a plug-in which has been disabled because of the potential security risk.

I'm locking this thread because for some reason the spammers have targeted it as a favorite place to post spam.

The "thank you" button is not available any longer.
