I spotted a half-full bottle of Eau D'Hadrien Absolue, supposedly not very fresh, at the flea market today. Like for many, it was all lemon for me when I 've tested it in stores and I was not that tempted, but 8 euros/~50ml was not bad at all.
Now I'm wearing it in the cold weather of Brussels. Well it took just a little to realize that it's not 'just lemons' at all. Same deception as with Monsieur Balmain. After the initial lemon burst has gone (quite quickly I'd say) there comes something bitter and cold, almost like plastic, which I felt I had smelled before and I thought this would be somehow connected to the year it was released, 1981, and the trends of this time, Tsar or something like that maybe.
I was then very surprised to realize it actually reminded me of CdG Odeur 71, something like cold urban/industrial air, something sharp, almost acrid a bit like 'office plastic', something that lacks any deep and 'sensual' base of woods or resins but still has some cold (or cool) thickness and presence. Maybe it's the musk in the base, this kind of musk that is not clean-smelling but is also not the animalic type. I can't put my finger on it but to me the resemblance is quite strong after the lemons get more quiet. Mind you, I've never worn Eau D'Hadrien in the hot months so this is a bit subjective.
Anyone that can compare these two please comment.
