My bottle of GIT is now pushing 2.5 years old and its now starting to smell stale and different. Almost an old cardboard smell. Anyone else get this?

Ugh. My GIT seriously doesn't last three hours. My decanted sample lasted over six.

It should not smell like this just after a few years. Mine is three years old and smells better than it did when I first got it. Maybe the bottle is old when you got it or has been exposed to excessive heat and light. Maybe you could try putting it in the fridge for a few days to see if the scent can be restored. Just be careful to store it in a cool dark place after.

    Hi jack,

I just bought a bottle lot A3210k01 and it smells terribly synthetic with no fresh notes at the top. I have to wait for the drydown to get a semi pleasant ambergris and sandlewood note, but even then longevity and sillage stink. What should i do send it back or hope it ages well in the next several months?

I would not except a substandard product especially as it costs so much. So send it back if you can, if they have a no return policy on fragrances then wait and it should get better. Mine is from a 08 batch and I bought it in that year to and I was not to impressed at first from the same things you are saying.

I left mine at the back of a cupboard and hardly ever used it. A few years later I tried it and I love it and cannot believe its the same juice.

So jack maybe mine will get better I'n a year or so? There is a new juice theory going around invent forums that says GIT ages like fine wine.

Mine from Fragrancex arrived and although I was delighted by itīs quality, I was too disapointed about lasting power (max 3 hours). Since January itīs been put aside on the back of my wardrobe, hoping this "aging" helps.

Kind of real disapointment for such an expensive product...

I had no choice to put mine away for a while for a good while as the place I bought it from had a no returns when used policy. But now the juice is gorgeous and lasts six hours plus and I love the violet note that comes into play just after the opening. If you leave it and come back to it at a later date I'm sure you will love it.

I have heard that to that they age well something to do with the materials in new bottles needing time to meld together to become richer.lol....... Have you seen the Aventus thread, that is one that even has greater batch differences than GIT.

Martin was kind enough to send me a sample from that batch he has, and it's amazing stuff. Smooth, fresh, and long lasting. Deserves to be I'n the GIT hall of fame...

As I remember it went straight to the dry down very quickly and smelled a bit off in the opening and did not last long. I got the stale smell on first application then it went away after a few minutes. At the time I was wondering what all the fuss was about with GIT as I was not impressed.

And as I have said before two years later it smells lush I get the iris and lemon verbena on the opening and then the violet leaves for a good few hours before it hits the vanilla/ambergris drydown.

As I remember the 4th and 5th numbers on the back of the bottle represent the year it was bottled and the last two numbers represent the year the ingredients came from a particular batch that was harvested.lol

It's crazy that we are all here discussing various differences in batch's on a cologne. Especially on how much it costs you would expect from Creed nothing less than perfect every time for your money.lol

    Couldnīt agree more.

But hey, maybe thatīs the charm about the house. An expensive (and unwanted) trick!

Jack you ain't kiddin! I own many creeds and only have problems with batch differences on GIT and MI. The rest are all consistent. I'n assuming sillage has improved as well on your bottle since the change?

  18. #168

Default Re: The Official Creed Green Irish Tweed thread!

Yes the sillage seems to be thick/lush from the lacklustre performance I was getting from it when I first purchased it. I'm glad I have not purchased Aventus as one problematic fragrance in my wardrobe is ENOUGH.lol

When GIT is on it sure is an amazing fragrance, bottles I'n the past have gotten me lots of compliments..

If it is true that their fragrances must age in order to attain their maximum sillage, longevity and potency, then you must consider this.

GIT/MI/Aventus are probably their top selling fragrances. They must keep up with a sharp increase in demand, which probably increases every day thanks to basenotes, ect... So they don't really have time to let batches sit around and ripen for years. So what happens is the consumers get "unripe" batches, but at least Creed has met their demand.

Whereas less popular fragrances get to sit around for a few years before consumers get hold of them, because they don't sell as fast.

For example, the testers at Nordstrom for Aventus, GIT, MI were all 2010. SMW, VIW, ect.. were 08 and 09 testers.

This isn't a defense for the house, but just something to consider.

You have an excellent point G Man, all the other creeds I have smell great and the batches range from 2008 to 2009. I just find it furstrating that a blooming GIT can take up to 2 years to fully mature. I will say this my aventus is one from their first batch and it smells awesome

does anyone mix colognes with GIT? I don't have a lot of different ones and I figure the best way to get more colognes without paying is to mix them :].

any good recommendations for a GIT mix?

Ok I was sent batch #A3210A02 and it is a lot LESS harsh than batch A3210A01, but it still doesn't smell like the GIT I remember. It lacks longevity and seems a bit stale in the the opening. I'm going to to let this sit for a long time and see if it gets better over time.

Creed knows that noone will use up a whole bottle in less than a year or two unless they are sharing it with friends or it is the only bottle the consumer owns then then they will fly through it and the notes won't have time to mature. Give the bottle some time guys treat yours frags like wine they get better with time

I swear that the new batch lasts 2 hours on me tops with no sillage, I sure hope it gets better with time. A good GIT is killer stuff.

    Ugh that sucks. Same here.
It smells divine from the bottle but longevity is awful.

I've been applying more of it onto my clothes rather than skin.

Is any cologne which gives out stale top notes conceivably getting fresher with age (real question)?

Usually "fresh" top notes citrus-heavy... and citrus essential oils are at best at their youngest, in my experience.

So is it possible that actually buying this stuff, if one would become interested at all in it and get over Creed's by now infamous propensity for a quick con, at much more reasonable prices, from Scentiments of Fragrance.net? They may have batches which may have aged a little already, makes a lot more sense than paying the outrageous full prices demanded by Creed Boutique and other greedy "authorized" vendors, nu?

    Hello!

I would like to buy GIT but how to know if the places I go are real, legit authorized dealers? I don't want to buy fake things... I live in Quebec, Montreal. There is 2 stores I can go for it :

    1- Ogilvy

2- LeParfumier, a big perfume shop in a shopping center...

Do you thing these places are good or I should buy online from the official creed boutique?

    Thx

Weird thing lately. Sometimes I've been getting a ton of the iris from my GIT. It's almost gourmand smelling, I want to even say like powdered dark/barely sweet chocolate. Then other times I get more of a kind of salty, green drydown. Kinda cool how this smells different every time I wear it.
