Amber Absolute smells just like the incense in the meiji jingu shrine in tokyo as well.

I've always thought that Mat,Very Male (the one in the black bottle) was very "japanese smelling" due to the bamboo note there and the very fresh opening with lotus in the mid notes and then the rather dark smoky base.

another one is Sarawak by C&E, very green, and a bit tropical, think south of Japan -islands and such.

A very good option on more niche scents would be Yuzu Fou by Parfum d'Empire which i find simplistic but very fresh with verveine, yuzu and kumquat.

In a minimalist japanese way i have also linked CKOne to that culture, since it's a very clean and sleek scent.

    cheers

Kenzo Pour Homme --a new favorite of mine.

    CdG Kyoto-- Great stuff.

    and from Masaki Matsushima:

Mat; Male-- I dig this one. It's kind of unisex and floral, but very clean like you just took a shower with a girl and used her shampoo. Odd, but I like that.

Mat; Very Male-- Licorice. It doesn't strike me as being as "Japanese" as the others, but I like it a lot.

M;Men-- Very underrated. Something like a cross between L'eau D'Issey and Guerlain Vetiver with grapefruit. Kind of a quiet, calm scent. Feels very Japanese to me.
