Default Caron Le 3me Homme or Pour un Homme?

    Hi,

Does anyone know if Caron Le 3me Homme and Pour un Homme smell similar or is it ok to buy both and have two completely separate fragrances?

By the way, these will be blind buys so all info would be greatly appreciated.
Im 24 and have a broad taste in fragrances.

    Thank you!

Both are wonderful fragrances that smell quite different.

Pour Un Homme is predominantly a lavender and vanilla scent, but it's a very accessible lavender fragrance. However, if you don't like lavender, then stay away from it.

The Third Man (Le 3me Homme) is a floral fougère, sort of. It's sorta powdery but very unique.

I've tried Pour Un Homme a few times, but The Third Man I blind bought and loved it.

I have trouble with Pour un Homme. I usually like vanilla, both in bed and in perfumes. But I have to admit that I felt sick when I sniffed Pour un Homme. Maybe it is the combined effect of the accord of vanilla and lavender, I don't know. But I simply cannot enjoy this fragrance. I gave the bottle to a friend.

They are different, but somewhat similar. Pour un Homme is simpler and more comfortable to wear. 3rd Man is a bit more daring and complex. Both are excellent and can be had quite reasonably.

A recent discovery of mine is A Taste of Heaven from By Killian. I find it to be sort of combo of the two. The good noses in here could expand on how different it is than either, but to my nose, it's a high end niche version inspired by one or both of these.

My enthusiasm for 3me Homme has faded...the idea is nice, but the execution is just too sugary sweet for me.

However, I LOVE Pour Un Homme. A simple blend, marvelously done.

Both are great and as you see everybody has his ideas. I prefer Troisieme (wearing it right now). As Grottola said, it is floral (jasmine and other flowers), but with an interesting musk base. A very clean and masculine feel. Unlike Livejazz, I don't find it sweet at all. puH is sweeter to me, because of the vanilla.

Where do you live? It's true that they are difficult to find, but it's not that impossible, so you should be able to smell them first. From the same brand, I also encourage you to smell Yatagan, a fantastic vegetal beast, which I also prefer to puH.

Great wisdom and guidance is already on this thread; the only addition I have is that I find PuH to be more versatile. Both are fantastic and in my collection. PuH gets a lot more wearing.

These are very different from each other. No worries on having duplicate or similar scents. Pour Un Homme is the superior frgarance, imo.

I'd certainly recommend getting the pair of them if possible. They easily different enough to justify owning both and would make a great addition to any wardrobe. I slightly prefer 3rd Man but it's a close shave.

Pour un Homme is a masterpiece, and I love how retro the bottle looks. For the other Caron . . . why not get Yatagan instead?

Get Pour un Homme. Le 3ieme Homme is floral fougere, a lil' bit bitter on the drydown

There is no comparison with Le Troisieme Homme and Pour Un Homme. It's like apples and oranges. I like both.

Yatagan is in a league all by itself.

What about Sandringham from Crown Perfumery for a masculine floral? It has a great muguet note (lily).

Besides The Third Man, the second best masculine floral in my opinion is Ténéré by Paco Rabanne.

    3rd Man every time.

Pour Un Homme is a fascinating experience in the perfumer's art, but is not, I don't think a great fragrance. I love the way it transmutes from savage lavender to sweet vanilla, it's genius in its transition. But I don't like the fragrance itself.

    3rd Man is simply beautiful.

Buy both, but start with Pour un Homme. It's nearly all-purpose, all-seasons, all-wonderful. Not quite right for nightclubs, or sports events. 3rd Man works better in those environments. Both.

    +1

I appreciate the 3rd Man but just don't wear it. PuH on the other hand is "user-friendly".

Don't forget also "Les Plus Belles Lavandes de Caron." It's touted as a ladies' cologne, but in fact it's Pour un Homme without the vanilla. Many people dislike PuH strictly because of the sweetness, and I think these people would be best served by Plus Belles Lavandes.

In response to your question, 3e is an aromatic fougère, herbal and a bit flowery, and is very different from PuH, which is more of a single-note "man scent." PuH is also declined in many bath and grooming products worth stocking if you like the frag. Their aftershave balm is top quality, both scent and effectiveness-wise, the aftershave splash a good one too, and there's shower gel, deodorant (great!), shaving foam (there probably used to be a shaving soap in years bygone! sigh...), and bath soap (smells harsher than the cologne). PuH is thus much more of a household scent, and 3e homme is strictly a cologne.

I personally haven't connected yet with 3e Homme, because I find it less unique, by virtue of its complexity (paradox?). What I mean is that 3e Homme might remind you of other male cologne because it has a recognizable structure, whereas Pour un Homme is brutally honest, it is what it is, and has neither layers nor ambiguities.

They are very dissimilar, and I would rank the 4 Carons as the following:

    1. Pour Un Homme
    2. Yatagan
    3. L'Anarchiste
    4. Le Troisieme Homme

I just tried 3rd man and to me it's a definte "like" but not a "love". It started off a little fecal but dried down nicely into sort of a powdery/floral/almost chocolately scent.

I have never tried they other Caron you mention but I can say this - based off 3rd Man and the other Caron I have tried (L'Anarchiste)
    - they are certainly unique and worth a try for each individual to decide for himself!

PuH is sweet--the vanilla overwhelms. Le 3me more interesting, less cloying, with an appealing dry down. They are quite different, in my opinion.

I prefer PuH. Third Man is one of only a few fragrances I find cloying; I love it when I first spray it on, but after an hour, I just want it to go away. I will never use up my bottle.
