Default fragrance of good quality extra virgin olive oil

Hello! Has anyone come across a fragrance that evokes the scent of a good extra virgin olive oil - peppery, green, slightly floral, vegetal, but not sharp or bitter?

Yeah that is a tough one. Short of actually applying the oil itself (I remember lovely olive oil massages for the kids when they were babies) I can't think of an olive-y scent. There must be one out there, though...

240 Views & only 3 replies - guess it really is a tough one!

With all the 'out there' unusual niche fragrances that exist I cannot believe that some perfumer somewhere has not tried to evoke the scent of good olive oil - its lovely! I thought it would make a great spring summer fragrance as its very fresh and green, but I know that actual olive oil won't work as a perfume!

Assigned with food a little too much to make a perfume out of it. But guess what? you can use the real thing on your skin no problem....well, gets a little oily but...yeah

I know you mentioned the oil but thinking about this maybe the scents of the olive tree and fruit. I dont know perhaps the greeness of the leaves, or smell of green olives, dirt the tree is in. Kind of outside your request.

I would be interested in any olive fragrance - there seem to be soaps, shower gels, body lotions, but no perfumes with a prominent olive note.

Yatagan is generally thought of as a pine scent, but it's paired with celery, which makes it very vegetal and deep green. You might also like scents with tomato leaf in them - it comes across a lot like that raw artichoke smell you get from really good olive oil. As such, you may really like Eau de Campagne. Lubin's Vetyver pairs the vetiver with a celery note, so it's also immensely green with a vegetable facet. For the peppery fresh-cut-grass smell you get primarily from premier Sicilian olive oils, sniff Go Green the next time you pass a Lush store. It's a solid perfume, but dead cheap.

As a side note, one of the Tom Ford exclusives (I think it's Noir de Noir) has a theoretical olive oil note in it, but it's buried in a sticky goo that incorporates everything from truffles to sweet candy to oud, so it's not really discernible.

Malle's Angeligue Sous La Pluie and French Lover both have many of the characteristics you are looking for. Especially FL.
Although they don't smell like actual olive oil.

    That is a tough one.

Sienne l'Hiver by Eau d'Italie, maybe? I've never tried it but it's supposed to have a fairly accurate green olive note. (I realize it's olive oil notes you're looking for but this is the closest thing I could think of.)

    Rogalal,

Fantastic post - thank you so much - this is exactly the type of information I was looking for! Yatagan,Eau de Campagne, Lubin's Vetyver & go green are on my to try list. You know your olive oils too!

Thank you everyone for your posts - guess it is an unusual scent request!

Oh yeah- don't confuse it with olive leaf absolute- not the smell of olive oil. A pricey but accessable and respectable sorce for the olive (fruit) absolute is Mandy Aftel's website Aftelier Perfumes. You can find it in the Chef's Essence.

While it doesn't actually smell just like olive oil, L'Artisan's Al Oudh reminds me a little bit of olive oil.

Yes, this is what I thought of immediately. Yerbamate and Eau de Campagne in particular might fit.

Also, you might look into some fig scents. That creamy greenness may leave a similar olfactory impression for you. Check out Philosykos first.

Pay attention to Lush limited editions, cause there is one of their soaps, called The Olive Branch, which is launched sometimes as a limited solid fragrance and alcohool fragrance. It has a great olive aroma, green and leafy.

You could also try Ciel d'Airain by Huitieme Art, which uses the olive smell in a pear context, and it's a great green fruity fragrance.

The natural brand Aftelier also use the olive absolute in one of their creations, combined with ginger, cognac, and blood orange. Because the brand only use natural essential oils, their fragrances are very expensive, but they have samples to sell, so maybe it's worth sampling and seeing if it matches your needs.

You can still find Olive Branch on ebay, and in general the auctions of the solid fragrances doesn't end in expensive values:

    I think it's what you're looking for.

But if you want a commercial fragrance, i'd try must de cartier pour homme and must de cartier pour homme essence. Both are fragrances that i get the olive note very detectable, altough they are very light on me.
