Default HELP: Chamade or L'Heure Bleue by Guerlain

Hello ladies! Which one is more wearable for a man? How do they compare to each other? Which is better? Or they're both equally good?

    Thank you!

I think L'Heure Bleue is more wearable for a man, but I love them both.

I only have EDT in both but the Chamade seems way more flowery feminine to me.

Chamade is far more modern for a start created in 1969 for a start. Its slightly powdery/woody in nature with a blast of aldehyde in the opening. Not a BLAST in the Chanel aldehyde mode.

L'Heure is almost narcotic in feel, bags of heliotrope as is the case usually with the classic Guerlains.

If you tastes are modern green then Chamade. Or if you prefer the classic feel with heliotrope L'Heure.
Honestly I say both could be worn by a man without problem.

I can't imagine Chamade on a man to be honest.

I have both of these wonderful scents. Chamade comes across as feminine to me. L'Heure Bleue is more unisex. However, I'm all in favor of wearing whatever you enjoy.

I suggest L'Heure Bleue - Chamade is powdery-sweet, LHB more refined and unisex.

I really like the Chamade parfum - and also the vintage EDC (and I'm a guy!). They both smell wonderful - they aren't manly-man fragrances, but Chamade is complex and a bit ethereal.

Thank you for all the insights! Let's see which one I end up with. In the future, maybe both!?!?

They're both masterpieces. Start with L'Heure Bleue, then get Chamade when the femiphobia has ceased by way of habituation. And bear in mind that Chamade takes a whole day to explore from start to finish

Chamade and L'Heure Bleue are both works of art and I have both in my wardrobe in EDP strength.

I totally agree with N Tesla on this one, they are both amazing scents and could certainly be worn by a man. The Chamade is slightly sweeter. Have you tried either of these? If not, definitely get samples and test them both out.

Yes, Chamade's top notes are a bit femme, whereas L'Heure Bleue is universal from the get go.

L'heure bleue is more traditionally unisex. I can't speak to the different strengths.

Chamade is quite different in EdT, EdP and Parfum strengths. The parfum is the spiciest and most unisex, the EdT is greenest, and the EdP most floral.

L'Heure Bleue, for sure. Chamade is one of the few Guerlains I cannot wear because when I smell it I smell 'woman'...it's hard to explain why.

IMO, the best formulation of LHB is vintage Eau de Cologne. I love my vintage PdT, but it was the EdC which really got my blood racing. Whereas, the EdT, I absolutely abhor.

Volley- I agree with Mike above. I have a 2000 EDP bottle of Chamade, but I slightly prefer the current parfum, which is indeed spicier and more pure.

One thing with L'hB- how do you wear white florals? There are certain times when this gets a bit 'loud' on me, whereas Chamade is more powdery and crisp. I'm assuming you're running out to get samples of both?

The vintage EDC of L'HB is almost as hauntingly beautiful as the vintage extrait, but without the duskiness(some say mustiness). The sweetness of the EDC is also more abstract, while it's more tangible & dense in the extrait.

I don't really like its EDT, which is almost a distinct scent from the EDC & extrait to my nose. Haven't tried the EDP yet.

I'm actually doing blind buy! =) Unfortunately in Shanghai, we don't have a lot of choices of perfume here, mostly mainstream frags. I can only buy online. That is why I am relying a lot on basenotes.

I would recommend L'Heure Bleue in EDP strength. It's flowery for only about 10 minutes before the ambery base shows up. It's also a very abstract fragrance and so more immediately "unisex," despite being to my nose sweeter than Chamade.

But I love Chamade also and worn in small doses it's just right.

To me, these are not just classic perfumes, they're legendary. That's why I want to get them.

I'm trying Chamade right now. It's true that its top notes are kinda feminine. Then it goes down to a very nice smell, with very strong sillage. It feels feminine, but that shouldn't be a problem, smells lovely. I don't think it's the best one to start exploring the feminine market but then, i smell my right hand (with chrome legend) and i don't know which es more feminine.

I'm not a guy but I agree with Teddius.

Chamade is much more complex than LHB. It takes a looong time to develop, so you have to give it time. These are two very different scents, I have both & love both. But I have a favorite between the two & that's Chamade.

Chamade is ultra-femme. Go with L'Heure Bleu. Many of its ingredients are traditionally masculine, like carnation, rose, iris, bergamot and coumarin. In fact, the story seems to suggest this might have been Jacques Guerlain's intent, since it was meant to express his wonderment while looking at the sky during a bout of insomnia. Many people interpret this perfume as one that is melancholy, but I think it is calm and optimistic, the definition of cool.
