Default I need a relaxing fragrance, help basenotes

I work very hard, many hours per day and when I come home, usually late in the evening, I like to enjoy my downtime. I have a nice shower, get cleaned up, and have something to eat. I would like a nice fragrance to enjoy in the evening/night. Something that gives a calming, soothing effect. Right now, I'm using Pure Malt and Musc Ravageur. I choose these because by the time I get to bed, they are drying down and smell very nice. Any other ideas? Maybe some lavender or eucalyptus? Maybe Body Kouros from what I have read? Thanks in advance fellas

edit: i am open to anything

Fumerie Turque, Eau Lente, Jaïpur Homme EdP, Dzongkha, Yerbamate, Équipage, Mitsouko, Aomassaï, Méchant Loup, L'Homme de Coeur and (I kid you not,) Carnal Flower all do it for me in their various ways during that reading by the fire downtime.

John, you've got a great idea going for a straight lavender. I also suggest a straight verbena, which is what I use to relax after the shower after an evening run. Caswell-Massey makes a good one and so does Molinard, although it's called Vervienne.

You've already picked good ones you're using now though.

    Hi John,

I posted about a month ago a similar need for a relaxing scent. I did a bit of searching to see what works for me.

I find Gucci Pour Homme II relaxing as well as Knize Ten Golden edition. The leather in Knize I find soothing. Others have mentioned Tea for two and I also love Dior Homme Intense - quite lovely with the chocolate/vanilla vibe.

    Best of luck.

I don't know about good lavender scents, don't really care for the stuff myself, but I think a tea scent may fit the bill but don't know tea frags well.
Personally, I find sandalwood to be very relaxing, I started trying frags because I was looking for a mellow sandalwood and ended up getting Tam Dao because it has a strong calming effect on me. You have to give it a moment to calm down, or spray it on something. I put some on my winter coat, certainly alleviate my irritation when I have to step out into the bitter cold we get up here.

I agree with StylinLA, Caron Pour un Homme is what your after. That lavender/vanilla combo is so soothing.

Gendarme 20 - Clean, clean, clean. Operating room clean Lavender.

I'm supposed to be getting a sample of Nancy Boy signature scent (Lavender, Peppermint, Rosemary) from a friend. I'll do a mini review in the next couple of days.

If you like Musc Ravageur, give Shalimar a try -- it's just as unisex and served as Roucel's inspiration for MR. It's a very relaxing, cozy and comforting. The original is great, but as Mr. Reasonable suggested, the Ode a la Vanilla is really wonderful.

Though not necessarily a fragrance, per se, I find the peculiar blend of aromatics in Tiger Balm very relaxing. Probably an association I developed using it for its original purpose after long practices and games, its particular scent really has a relaxing effect. That being said, supposedly Heeley modeled Esprit du Tigre (Spirit of the Tiger) after Tiger Balm. The best part is, after working a hard day and long hours; Tiger Balm also helps with pain relief!

+1 Gucci Pour Homme II...it's relaxing and refreshing, so perfect for the evening after you've taken a shower (you wanna feel relaxed and clean, right!)

I've also been sample L'Air Du Desert Marocain this week and find it to be an extremely relaxing and peaceful fragrance (not to mention awesome!)...you may want to look into sampling it.

Looks like you have a bunch of good options!

The first thing that came to mind for me is Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Santal Noble.

I agree with the more simple suggestions - a subdued sandalwood, amber, verbena, or lavender. I think the more complex scents might be a little too much stimulation for relaxing sometimes, so keep the notes simple and I think you'll be set!
