    Default Relaxing/sleep-inducing fragrances....?

I hope I'm not alone in this but does anyone else ever spray a fragrance on their pillow or bed to help them relax/fall asleep...? If so, what do you use...?

I personally love the smell of Body Kouros on my pillow and find it really relaxing and sleep-inducing....

    Any other suggestions....?

I never spray before bedtime, Ambre Sultan however makes me very lethargic.

Instead of spraying your pillow with mostly chemical substances why not try burning/heating a bit of good sandalwood or agarwood (a sweet Cambodian one should work best)? Agarwood in particular has been shown to have an effect on central nervous system, I doubt that any department store fragrance can boast of having similar qualities.

Agarwood (Jinkoh in Japanese) is an Oriental medicine for use as a sedative. Neuropharmacological studies have been conducted with the extracts of petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, and water from agarwood (Aquilaria sp.; probably Aquilaria malaccensis Benth.) in mice. The benzene extract showed a reducing effect in spontaneous motility, a prolonging effect on hexobarbiturate-induced sleeping time, a hypothermic effect in terms of rectal temperature, and a suppressive effect on acetic acid-writhing by oral administration. Fr. 1 of the three fractions which were obtained from the benzene extract by column chromatography was found to produce more positive effects on these neuropharmacological tests than the original benzene extract. These facts suggest that the benzene extractable compounds of agarwood possess potent central nervous system depressant activities.

    Planta Med. 1993 Feb;59(1):32-6.

    The smell of clonazepam

Seriously, lavender is known for its relaxing effects, so you should try looking for lavender-based scents. Other oils are mentioned too, like patchouli, vetiver, etc.

You might as well conduct a search on these, or try a blend made by yourself consisting of a good quality lavender oil diluted in perfume alcohol.

For relaxing before bed & spraying on a pillow; my choice would be CK Be. It has a wonderful relaxing, clean white musk smell that reminds me of ivory soap. I also think Nautica's White Sail has the same vibe.

Yes but the fragrance must last long enough for one to actually fall asleep!

If office scents, they must have hypnotic rather than relaxing effects,

Definitely Tam Dao and sometimes Sables too, strangely enough. Lavender is one of the few notes I really have a problem with, so that would probably give me insomnia.

I have a problem with a lot of lavender, but I find By Kilian- A Taste of Heaven, to be quite soothing. I often hit myself with a spritz before I hit the hay.
