Smelled a sample of this yesterday at Neiman's, very floral, very feminine. Smelled nice, but not for me.

Sounds pretty good to me! From the notes I'm picturing a more fully floralized Dior Homme.

Tried it at Saks today. My initial impression is that it is a very nice violet fragrance that can be worn by ANYONE. But it seems to be a bit too light/tame for my tastes. I got a sample to take home, so I'll try it again before making a final decision on it.

This is a very nice fragrance.....A bit too feminine for me.....While this is not for me I can see this doing very well.....Gary
Sorry if I was vague. When I said "meant," I was inferring that the e on the end of "blonde" meant that it's probably "marketed" for women exclusively.I guess I can understand why some men would not wear a women's scent (maybe the bottle?), but I don't see what difference it makes. For example, I'm in love with the "barbershop soap" type scents (like Prada Pour Homme). Though, still being a girly girl, while I do like pink and yellow notes for day wear in warmer months, most "white" notes in perfumes usually do not interest me at all unless they are done as single notes. Too feminine/flowery! Mostly, I prefer dark/warm ... amber, patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla, tobacco, cedar, leather, etc. Love old Guerlain/Caron/Lanvin. Spice is nice!
And most spice fragrances are easily worn by either sex.

Well, now that I see the "notes" you posted I'm very curious to smell this ... what a strange top mixture! Violet, orange and pink? Wonder how he pulled that off. That sends my mind in 3 different directions! Is it really flowery? I find his fragrances very strong, so I'm delighted to hear it's "light." Guess I'll just HAVE to go to Nordstrom's next week ...![]()
I sampled this last week and found it not very memorable.
- Expect the unexpected
Is light as the same level as Grey Vetiver?

Expect the next ones to be strong as Black Orchid or White Patchouli. I think i will pass this one, specially cause i already own black violet
Also, how they compare, black violet and violet blonde?
I have to laugh at all the automatic passes simply because it's marketed for women. Oh well, more for the rest of us, I suppose!
Is the orris in this the really earthy, woody type?

Octavian over at 1000fragrances gave this a very good review:

It is kind of an odd review. He seems to be waxing eloquent for several paragraphs about how wonderful it is, and then makes these statements at the end. But I gathered that he thought pretty highly of it overall. I'm like you, though, in that I prefer fragrances with more oomph.
He makes an interesting reference to Santal Blush, calling it "explosive and irresistable".

I didn't find the opening of Violet Blond particularly embracing (I struggle a bit with anosmia to some violet formulations as it is), but the heart and dry down were *wonderful* Very velvety and charming, like a rosy blush across the cheeks. My wife is still in two minds about it after a full days wearing, whilst I wouldn't grow tired of smelling the latter stages of this on her.
I would not say it's one for my personal use, though.
If the sillage is like Black Orchid's, then I think it's misspelled and its name ought to have been Violent Blonde.

I wouldn't call Santal Blush "explosive". I sampled it side by side with Jasmin Rouge at first, and JR blew it away in "explosiveness", to the point where I couldn't smell SB until I put down the other card and waited a bit. Nonetheless, it seems like a great boozy floral sandalwood fragrance, with a few similarities to West Side from Bond.
Splits!

Riverwide....
It is due in selfridges approx Oct 6th - well that's the week they are expecting it anyway.
I don't know if it's exclusive with them first or everywhere- sales guy hadn't tried it yet either, their 'introduction' is this week...
Best
Lovely scent on a sample strip, but now I am worried as I also don't like subtlety and lightness.

I am wearing this tonight, and I love it. Yes, it's subtle (for a TF scent) and the violet is powdery and yes, for sure the iris is very prominent. It's not necessarily 'makeup bag' smelling, because it's not very strong, but the gentle whiffs I keep catching of do indeed have iris. The overall effect is something sort of vintage and retro smelling - a style that Mr. Ford is very fond of and IMO does very well (like he did for the retro Rive Gauche Pour Homme when he worked for YSL). The combination of these two florals could easily push this into 'WOMAN' territory but since all of you guys have been rockin' the Dior Homme and Infusion d'Homme forever now, I can't see how an iris prominent fragrance can automatically be labeled as feminine.
I am normally not a big fan of violet prominent fragrances, and when they're blended they sometimes can overwhelm the composition as a whole (like Aqua Allegoria Lavande Velours - where it sort of smothers the lavender), but in VB its a delicate touch.
I am sort of reminded of those violet mints I love to eat (that are so hard to find these days).
A shower gel of this scent would smell incredible!

Mike do you get the connection to Boudoir? I'm flabbergasted no one in the fragrance world mentioned this online!
Great scent. Very light and can easily be worn by men, even those that dont like florals.
I pretty much love everything from Tom Ford but thought that violent blonde really was quite horrific , I mean really really horrific![]()
Beautiful scent! I love almost everything from Tom Ford, but this scent is definitely my favorite. I want a full bottle, and will probably purchase it soon.
P.S. If somebody wants to get rid of his bottle, let me know.![]()
