I like Armani Code and Gucci PH2 - good luck!
Thread: Which fragrance for first date?
I'm new around here and have started taking an interest in learning more about different fragrances. I came upon this site a month or so ago and love it!
I have built a small collection of fragrances over the winter, mostly common and safe stuff but I have several I really like. The collection includes Armani Code, Canali Men, YSL L'Homme, Kenzo Power, Polo Blue, Pure Havane, Gucci PhII, Burberry Brit and a couple others.
A little about myself, I'm 42 and live in Ohio and am fairly conservative. I've got a first date coming up this week and I'm curious which fragrance, of my small collection, you all might suggest? I don't know this woman yet but would obviously like to make a good impression (or at least smell nice!). I'm leaning toward Canali Men or Code for the dinner date I think. They seem pretty universally liked. I thought it would be interesting to get some of your opinions.
Thanks and again I love this site and all it offers!
I like Armani Code and Gucci PH2 - good luck!
We'll be having a casual dinner and depending on weather (probably cool and rainy) probably going for a walk to get to know each other.
I'd pick your personal favorite and definitely wouldn't spray too much.
The one you feel most comfortable in...
Wearing what I'm most comfortable in is definitely good advice. I'm so new to wearing fragrances I'm still learning how to wear them (if that makes sense). I like Gucci PH II but it is probably the hardest for me to figure out. It's an interesting smell but I can't determine what it's strength and projection are like. I guess I should definitely err on the side of too little vs too much!
In my opinion, Kenzo Power
YSL L'Homme or Gucci PH II will do the job. Good luck and wellcome to basenotes!
Re: Gucci PHII strength and projection
In my experience (and for others, if we believe their reviews), this hangs pretty close to the skin. So I wouldn't be too worried about overspraying (imo something like 3 sprays will not be too much, personally I would use more, but erring on the side of safety is always good)
L'Homme will probably work out, as it's pretty safe.
Just don't use too much.
Very cool, thanks for the opinions/advice! I think what I perceive as the "subtlety" of Gucci PH II may be just the ticket for a first impression. I know I probably shouldn't over think it but with so many choices out there I guess it's part of the fun.
I would also suggest Gucci PH II. Chances are, you will at least get a
"Hi, nice to meet you" hug at some point early on, or at least get close
enough for a handshake. At that range, Gucci PH II will project enough.
I can't think of many safer, better first impression fragrances.
And I don't think all that many people wear Gucci PH II to be honest.
It will make a good first impression.
I'd recommend at least 3 sprays--one on the chest, one on the front of the
neck and one on the back of the neck--and 1 more on each wrist/forearm
probably wouldn't be overkill with this fragrance.
Good luck, and hope it goes well.
I think of the fragrances I own Gucci PH II is the least common which is probably a good thing. Thanks for the wishes of good luck, I'll probably need it! Part of the reason I have developed an interest in fragrances is to try and redefine my personal style a bit and I think wearing some decent fragrances go hand in hand with what I want to achieve. Hopefully I'm taking it in the right direction.
i would say La nuit De l'homme By Ysl
Cannali Man, Code, GPH II are all good choices but would narrow down to Cannali Man or Code.
Is the juice worth the squeeze?
I steer towards the idea of wearing what you feel the most comfortable with, something you're confident in. If it was my situation, I would wear the Armani Code from your list, I love it..
Welcome to the BN...
Good luck anyway! 'Hope she will meet Your expectations.

Another vote for Gucci PH II. It sounds like it will be perfect for the setting and occasion. Another benefit is that it's not a super popular fragrance, so it won't remind your date of a previous boyfriend!
Gucci Pour Homme II ...I would go with YSL L'Homme if it was summer. Seriously, its what you feel comfortable wearing that matters.

...so, how'd that date go? Y'know, the one from April 2011?
In my swap list: Gucci Pour Homme (2003) BNIB.
I'm looking for Reflection Man or Andy Warhol (silver bottle w/Andy's face)
Hmm - let's close it ....
