CHANEL Egoiste and Hermès Bel Ami.
Cool water *wink wink*.
CHANEL Egoiste and Hermès Bel Ami.
I fully second Rive Gauche, but also e.g. Caron pour un Homme, Eau Sauvage, Mouchoir de Monsieur, Boucheron pour Homme and many more smell quite close to niche

SOLOMON saith: There is no new thing upon the earth. So that as Plato had an imagination, That all knowledge was but remembrance; so Solomon giveth his sentence, That all novelty is but oblivion.
If not designers, then certainly designer prices....
-Cabaret by Grés
-Bergamotto Marino by Gianfranco Ferré
-1776 Russian Leather by Elsha.
These three smell like they could easily be niche fragrances to me.....

No way - Insense exemplifies what a good "designer" can be: well balanced, complex and sketchy at once, catching idea well executed, refined. Insense is a work which apparently had lots of time to develop and evolve. Same with Azzaro Pour Homme, great idea plus perfect craftmanship. I don't like it too much, though.
"Niche" has to be more than that to compensate for missing possibilities like broad testing/evaluation, raw materials. Not so good example: Timbuktu. Good idea, but an evaluation would have shown it too sweet, with a lacking balance, all in all a little crude. Better examples: Vierges Et Toreros (ELdO) - new idea executed at least to be bearable, Odeur 53 / 71 by CdG, same.
So a "designer" smelling "niche" would be a bad frag - Missoni (new) or Feu D'Issey or Rush?

Burberry The Beat & Power by 50 Cent are both very unique & different from most designer scents to me. I would include Live Jazz as well.
I'm not sure what you mean here. I've named a few b/c I think there are many scents that have a "niche" quality about them. Just my observation.
M7 - totally off the beaten path of typical designer fragrances. It offers a daring and unique option for the evening, yet it is very classy.
Carven Homme - high quality fragrance with complexity and development. This could have been a niche oriental.
Paco Rabanne Extreme - I like the development in this one and the notes smell natural and high quality (which I associate with niche perfumery)
Cacharel Nemo - I'll admit that I've only worn this a few times but it is also a stark departure from the mundane, designer offerings that it suggests a lack of aspiration for mass appeal, like most niche perfumes.

FYI, I've started a thread over on the female board if you have any suggestions for good "niche-y" designer scents aimed toward women.

I could see Cartier Roadster in this category as well. To me it is a very different & unique take on a natural, herbal mint note. (The mint mixed with the patchouli always reminds me of wet concrete or a block basement. Very unique & non-mainstream).
Funny how our perceptions differ. I think Nemo is great but it's a typical example of a designer fragrance to me in that it's well made and pleasant but doesn't really push any boundaries and/or doesn't smell like it contains exceptionally high quality ingredients.
I want to revive this topic. Is your taste changing with age?
For me Narciso Rodriguez Musc Collection EDP and Encre Noire.
Designer that smells niche;
Everything from Comme des Garcons and Costume National (though they're considered niche by many, they are in fact designer brands).
I'll echo in with M7, Egoiste, and Midnight in Paris as well.
Also, many offerings from Tom Ford and Etro are about as "nichey" smelling as you can get from modern designers.
My Top 10
1. Amouage Homage Attar
2. Serge Lutens - Muscs Koublai Khan
3. YSL M7
4. Serge Lutens - Ambre Sultan
5. Chanel Egoiste
6. 24 Gold by Scentstory
7. Amouage Epic Man
8. Amouage Jubilation XXV
9. Bond No. 9 New York Oud
10. Serge Lutens - Chergui
"A beautiful fragrance to the nose is like good jazz music to the ears, great food to the mouth, and Megan Fox and Jessica Alba to the eyes..."
I'll repeat several that have already been mentioned (and remind everyone that historically, many designer fragrances have been as daring, if not more, than a whole host of niche offerings):
Dior Fahrenheit
Dior Homme
Dior Eau Sauvage
Chanel Egoiste
Bvlgari Black
Yves Saint-Laurent M7
Scentstory 24 Gold.
John Varvatos 10th Anniversary
I think Zirh Ikon smells like a good incense neche fragrance. And it costs only pennies per ml.
Definitely Narciso Rodriguez For Him
