Default Vintage MPG Santal Noble compared to current Santal Noble

There are many mentions and many threads regarding these two, but never really bluntly asking the question. I'd like to ask the group - if I own the current formulation of Santal Noble, would there be any reason to buy a bottle of the vintage? I love the current version, but can anyone make a case for blindly buying a bottle of the old 90ml with the thought that it would be worlds different/better? I'd absolutely buy it if it was markedly better, but not if it was just a slight formulation variation.

I too am dying to find out the straight-up answer. I have the current formulation and love it to death. The opinions I've read are very conflicting. Some say it lost it's magic because the coffee note is toned way down and others say the sandalwood smells richer in the current. So which is it folks?!

Don't go by my nose, but I have the vintage and have smelled the current, and cannot detect any significant difference.

If you have and love the current version...you will LOVE the vintage.
    It's basically a darker/richer version.
The sandalwood in the newer formula is less "buttery" and "deep"
Just barely less gourmand than the new formula.
More coffee bean and less powdery up top.
I agree with whomever in the directory described it as "one of perfumery's towering masterpieces"
    G.O.A.T. sandalwood

    Hello,

Can anyone chime in on this and indicate where I would even be able to buy a vintage of this (other than ebay, which doesn't have any at the moment)?

    Thanks

The overall smell is the same. However, the new one is definitely toned down on the coffee and incense, it's just a very much watered down version of the original in all aspects of the composition. The new one has no where near the projection and longevity of the original.

Having said that, that might be good to some people as I think the new one is definitely more wearable.

Well, I only have the old one, but I do have both new and vintage versions of two other MPGs (AP & EdI) and I've gotta say that the vintage ones are great, but so are the new ones. I think this house has been really slammed for re-formulations in a way that seems disproportionate to me. (I haven't smelled the new RdV, though.)
